Dr. Barry Kami, DDS

Dr. Kami came highly recommended, but he ultimately ended costing me $1600 for an unnecessary procedure. I came in for a check up and some advice on cosmetic work. I was then told they would do a deep cleaning. I confused it with a normal cleaning and also assumed that it was a necessary procedure, which was my mistake.The way the office deals with Guardian insurance is to do the procedure, have the patient pay up front, then submit paperwork to the insurer so the insurer will reimburse the client. Soon after the cleaning was done, I got a notice from the insurance company telling me the procedure wasn't necessary. Knowing how insurance companies operate, I went to another dentist for another opinion. The second dentist looked at the X-Rays and agreed that the deep cleaning was not medically necessary. Dr. Kami's office appealed the decision, but the insurance company denied. So I got stuck with a $1600 bill. I would recommend staying away from this office, especially if you have Gua

Dr. Kami is available quickly in an emergency. I had one, called every dentist in Berkelely. No one else had an appointment and in many cases I couldn't get past voicemail. Dr. Kami saw me in an hour.Dr. Kami, who has been my dentist now for two years and I've been impressed. Prices are reasonable, the office runs ontime, and everything feels organized and pulled. And most importantly, I feel confident that Dr. Kami and his staff are clinically excellent.
