Avoid - Incredibly Rude Front Desk Staff
I rarely leave negative reviews, but after over three years of repeated issues, I feel compelled to share my experience with Dr. Hess's office so others can make an informed decision.I initially went to Dr. Hess for a dental implant, and the experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. The post that was placed in my gum became infected, requiring the procedure to be redone. When I returned for the corrective surgery, I was aggressively confronted by a woman named Kim, who screamed at me about an alleged outstanding balance. I calmly asked to review my records and check with my dental insurance provider, as I had no prior knowledge of this charge. Instead of working with me to resolve it, she became even more hostile, ultimately refusing to allow the surgery to proceed — unless I paid on the spot — and threatened to charge me a $150 cancellation fee for a procedure they chose not to perform. This wasn’t an isolated incident. Every single time I have called or visited the office,

Lifesaver in an emergency
I recently had an appointment with Doctor Hess and was impressed with the level of care I received. I’m in Cleveland from out of town because of my spouse’s surgery and I had a emergency dental issue. After calling around I received several referrals to Doctor Hess. Luckily the office staff worked me into the doctor’s schedule. The office staff were very polite and efficient, making this very stressful experience a positive one. Doctor Hess was very professional, asking about my spouse’s surgery (sensing my stress) and made me feel at ease throughout the appointment. His knowledge of dentistry was evident, and I felt confident in his ability to provide the best possible care. I would definitely recommend Periodontal Associates to anyone in need of dental care.

Absolutely the best periodontist
I have been treated by Dr Hess for 20 years and have never been disappointed. He has allowed me to live a normal life free of most pain and aggravation despite my ongoing gum disease. Great person also!

Dr. Hess did not wear gloves for my exam!
I was mortified that Dr. Hess did not wear gloves for my exam. On 2 separate visits. It's been a law since 1985 and only takes 2 seconds to put gloves on. I shouldn't have to ask my dentist to put gloves on! I was shocked and will never go back.

Dr. Hess tells it like it is, presents the options and keeps me informed while he’s working. He’s done 3 implants for me and follows up routinely to keep patients healthy. Great office staff, too.

Dr. Hess is a fine surgeon, and the direct surgery follow-up was excellent. The technicians have a range of super friendly and knowledgeable to so-so. The front desk staff also has a broad range from hello who are you to I really care. For the longer-term follow-up expect to wait from 30 minutes to an hour to be seen without any guarantee of actually to be seen if you run out of time. It also takes 2-3 months to get a follow-up appointment which is quite disturbing. If I don't need to, I don't need to go back there. For the cost of the implant, I expect more service and respect for my time as a busy professional myself.

Dr. Hess and his team are all TOP NOTCH! After reading about him online and finding mostly excellent 5 star reviews, I decided to make an appointment and make the two hour long drive from Toledo, OH. Unfortunately, Dr. Hess’s next available appointment was over 1 month out and so I decided to schedule with Dr. Rebecca Davis so that I could be seen sooner. Surprisingly, she and the office staff saw a note in my file saying that I had originally called to see Dr. Hess and so they made it a point to have him come meet me. Long story short, Dr. Davis and the entire team rolled out the red carpet to take care of me. Dr. Hess even gave A LOT of his time even though I was not his patient per se! I wish I remembered the assistants name because she was very nice and VERY informative with answering all of my questions. I had an excellent experience from start to finish! In fact, Dr. Davis and Dr. Hess said that my gums are improving and so surgery was not even needed!!!!!

Dr. Hess was fine with me but he berated his assistant in front of me for not having the right paperwork. His primary receptionist was rude - to me and others while I was standing there. The technician couldn't sufficiently numb me for my procedure, then told me that the Novocaine didn't work right because I was tense. She demonstrated a therapeutic technique so hard that I arched out of the chair in pain -- then repeated it 2 more times to make sure I "got it." Never again.
