Can't get appointment

I have been going to this practice for almost 30 years. Dr. Ouellette is great. The problem now is that you can't get an appointment when sick. I called on a Wed around 1 with post covid cough, shortness of breath, I was testing negative for covid. I was told they would call me back to see if they could squeeze me in. I did not receive a call back until 4:00. I was told they have no openings the rest of the week and I would have to go to urgent care, which costs me more too. Why do I have a PCP, when they can't see me except for physicals.
