About six weeks ago, I had a fall in my home; I tripped over the dishwasher door. It was very graceful and by that, I mean painful. My left side and my right knee were in a lot of pain. I went to see Dr. Gampolo about 1 1/2 weeks later and told him what happened. He gently chided me for waiting so long and sent me for an x-ray to make sure no ribs are broken as I was still in a great deal of pain. It turns out no broken ribs and when he reviewed the results with me, he educated me all about the intercostal muscles between the ribs. He said I had strained a couple of those muscles and may have torn one. I'd never heard of 'intercostal muscles' before, I'd only dealt with sprained ribs from a car accident. He shared a lot of information with me and sent me a link via email so I could read more about it.
