WellMed at Irving

I came in for my yearly physical labs at the McKinney office. I am a self-pay patient. The receptionist informed me when I arrived that HCA no longer would bill me but I would receive a bill directly from the lab doing the blood work. I asked if they were aware that I was self-pay and would bill at that rate. I was told yes.I received a bill for $2684.31 a week later from Quest Diagnostics. In the last three previous years my lab bill was $424, $426, and $484 so I was quite shocked at this bill. I was not informed about the possibility of the bill being six times the amount of the previous bills.Quest says they do not have a self-pay rate unless the doctor's office negotiates this at contract time. All they can offer me is a payment plan or financial assistance of which I don't quality.So, beware of what you are told by the front office staff. There are cheaper places to get labs done and I would have done that if I had any information about the cost.
