I went to have an IUD contraception removed and discuss an alternative birth control. The initial interaction with felt very standoffish and during our conversation, it felt like she was trying to convince me against removing the IUD for reasons I can now only comprehend as being an inconvenience to her. In less than 10 minutes, and with no words of preparation spoken, the IUD was painfully removed. While I was processing the initial shock, finally replied “Done,” and left the room, leaving the the door open as I lay on the table with only the cloth draped on my lower half, able to see other providers and patients walking through the hallway. Understanding that she was not returning, I stood up and closed the door behind her before re-dressing. I was not provided an opportunity to discuss alternative birth control methods. When I'm (and most women at the OB) are at my most vulnerable, I would expect much better bedside manner.
