I was referred to VEC - Norfolk by my optometrist for a cataract consult, and I had an appointment confirmed for 2 months after I saw my optometrist for my yearly visit (2 months being pretty good considering referrals into other practices usually take way longer to get in). I was advised up front that my cataract consultation would likely take 3 hours, and waited at most a half hour (the place is busy, but with the results I got I can see why) before I was called back. The staff made me feel relaxed as I went through the measurement and testing, as well as Dr. Scoper did when I got to to the finals steps of the consultation. The longest wait I had was for surgical scheduling, but understood after I witnessed first hand the volume of information that had to be relayed for each person setting up surgery.

Please read this review BEFORE scheduling. I had 2 recent visits with very long waits. After the long wait for 1st appt., I waited several months so I could have the very first appt. of the day. After a 50 minute wait, I was told that testing machines would not start. Once I was bought in 2 failed mid test. These are important machines measuring eyes for surgery. The doctor apologized for long wait but he was rushed. He did answer some questions but said the scheduler would answer rest. I guess the doctor did not know that both nurse educator and the surgical scheduler were not in that day. So I left with many unanswered questions and NO date for surgery. I was promised a call back from scheduler within 72 hours. It has been 3 weeks and after repeated calls and no reason given for delay. The last contact was abrupt and said I should wait to be called. I have lost all confidence with this practice and moving on to get my eye surgery done elsewhere. This has been a terrible experience.

This has been the worst experience trying to get our son in for a necessary surgery. It's been since the spring of 2021 that we have tried to get this appointment. It's finally scheduled next week...but they have NOT called back as promised with information regarding when and where the appointment is AND any health and safety precautions we need to take and prepare for before and especially AFTER the surgery. They said 72 hours, it's been almost a week and no one has called. Their answering service is terrible, sitting 10 minutes or more on hold and no one ever picks up to check in. When they do, they are of little help. Abysmal. It's a shame, because we hear the doctor is good, but everything else screams this is an awful practice and location.
