A terrific doctor.
Dr. Matsumoto really listens and makes sure he understands what my issues are for that visit. He is complete and thorough in his assessment and then fully explains what his conclusions are. He doesn't end the appointment until my questions are answered. He makes me feel like a full partner in my own care. It is very convenient to be able to take and see x-rays during the visit. The x-ray person was also terrific. Very pleasant, professional, and efficient.

Dr. Matsumoto listened to everything I described about my conditions and took the time to explain in detail my conditions and offer different solutions if I chose to pursue them . He wanted me to understand my situation and offered a couple surgeons that would be best suited for my condition.

Amazing Human and Doctor
I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis since I was in my 20s, I am now 43. I had many doctors who tried to help me management my symptoms, not stop the disease from progressing, which only caused damage to my joints. Dr. Matsumoto took an aggressive approach to tackle the disease which would also manage my symptoms. It took me 15 years to find him and I drive one hour to see him every 3 months. He is the only reason why I am able to function and live a normal life. His approach to fight the disease is aggressive with an empathetic and caring approach with me. I am certain if I didn’t have him as my doctor, I would likely be bed ridden or in a wheelchair. I recommend him to anyone with RA and I hope he will come to Virginia one day, until then I will continue to do the one hour drive.

Totally agree re Matsumoto’s arrogance & mercenary practices. Dismissive of pt concerns/questions and NO bedside manner. And the ARA practice he’s in won’t let u chg docs, so choose wisely bc ur stuck. A real peach! Best to move on & find a compassionate doc who listens, is not defensive & is not protected by the large practice. Good luck.

Dr. Matsumoto is very intelligent, knowledgeable, and is very thorough and is up on the latest research. He outlined a recommended treatment plan; explained everything thoroughly, and gave me plenty to time to ask questions. I saw Dr. Matsumoto about 13 years ago, and my experience was exactly the same - a very memorable and positive experience. I might also add that Dr. Matsumoto is associated with Johns Hopkins; I believe he probably teaches a class there every month or so if I had to guess. He also used to be on the Johns Hopkins faculty. There aren't that many MDs with that sort of background. I read several of the reviews where Dr. Matsumoto was given a low ranking. Those reviews are not in any way reflective of what I experienced. My instincts are that some of these are people who are overly emotional and looking for someone to coddle them or something like that.

He is very knowledgeable about the disease I consulted him for but he is nor the warmest or friendliest doc around. A bit on the arrogant side, I would say. He also wanted all lab tests done in the office and referred me to the practice's own physical therapy department. Wait time in his office is terrible - at least 30 minutes each time, if not longer. Not the friendliest staff either.

He ignored my Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) fatigue symptom that is debilitating at times. He said it couldn't be associated with PsA. Most RA an PsA suffer from varying degrees of fatigue so I was baffled by his comment. I didn't return and found a Rheumatologist who addressed my fatigue symptom as part of PsA.

I find Dr Matsumoto to not only be a knowledgeable doctor but also very reactive to my issues and very caring. This RA thing is new to me. As such he has been very patient. Appointments have been easy to get and his office staff is always professional.

Avoid this entire practice. The doctor asked me to authorize 3 blood tests, and then he proceed to perform a dozen. All of those were unauthorized tests I'd had through just a couple months prior, and he had the results! All his tests were performed at their own lab. No doubt a big cash cow. My strong suspicion after getting various feedback is that this practice does this routinely. The bill was huge. Also Dr masumoto is cold, doesnt seem to care. Arrogant

I would not recommend this office to my worst enemy. Front desk personnel are unfriendly and discriminatory. If you are not the right color don't bother to come to this office. I was let know that I was considered a last class citizen by the whole office. Including Dr. Matsumoto. Humiliating experience. I was put in a room without air conditioning and the blood pressure machine didn't work.

Dr. Matsumoto relies on evidence based medicine as much as personal contact with the patient. To have the most successful appointment with him take complete note on your pain levels, when you have pain, what kind of pain and at least two weeks of pain logs. His background is extraordinary. Coming from Johns Hopkins he is held in high regard at Hopkins and with other physicians. His practice is instrumental in developing and testing new meds. Having an on-site lab is a huge plus.

I have been seeing Dr. Matsumoto for 4 years and he has always been attentive and through .I have had several different problems and he has always been willing to figure out what's was going on and provide me with the treatment needed. Office has X-ray and blood station so you don't have to make another trip for labs.

I am a new patient of Dr. Matsumoto and he came highly recommended by other medical professionals in Balto. He spent 45 minutes with me as a new patient reviewing history etc. The office is able to do lab work and X-Rays. He also took X-Rays of my hands and feet (have had numerous surgeries) for base line information. He understands that some older patients with RA were diagnosed prior to the bio-logic modifying drugs, Enbrel, came on the market; I am on Enbrel to prevent further damage.

Poor bedside manner. Rude. He yelled at me for correcting his incorrect recounting of my symptoms. Then he refused to examine my knee and my back even though they are in pain, because the pain at those sites did not fit into the pattern of information about the primary condition that I came in for. I guess he only allows a patient to have one malady. Overall his taking of history was sterile and I felt as if he did not care much about me at all.

The office was very cold and unfriendly. i unfortunately had been forced to see this doctor twice as it is office policy before they will switch you to another competent empathetic individual. The 1st visit they could care less that my blood pressure was 150/110, as where other doctors wouldnt even see me at that point. My PDR originally sent me here for in hopes for relief from pain and answers but all i received in return was nothings wrong and its probably just fibromyalgia .Noanswers..nothin
