Incorrect Diagnosis Twice
First visit Dr. Shaffer told me I had glaucoma and wanted to see me again in a month. Then I had an eye emergency with zillions of tiny bubbles in my vision and large black floaters. Dr Shaffer said it was just a migraine. He also said that I no longer had glaucoma. I went to my optometrist because I knew it was something more. Turns out I had a Posterior Vitreous Detachment. My optometrist was floored that he called it a migraine. I will never go back there.

I had a bad feeling about this doctor the moment I saw him. He was very distant and rude, he told me he had removed all stitches out my eye....yet I still felt them the next day. Luckily a doctor locally in town removed them from my eye...this doctor has deep issues I would never go to him again ever.

Rude rude rude. He says stop resisting a lot when you can’t keep your eye open because you have an injury. Knocks stuff over when he doesn’t get his way. Every other visit was like seeing a different doctor. Very unhappy man. I think he was picked on in med school or he has little man syndrome. If he walks in smiling your good for that day. If he looks pissed then go ahead and start cursing him out so that he knows your paying him for his service.

This doctor is like Web MD, 1 symptom and you have cancer. Happened with me as he gave me a glaucoma scare and wasn't able to answer any of my questions. Turns out I'm not the only patient he has scared with glaucoma. Also, I had to wait about an hour for him to finish his personal call during my scheduled appointment.

My wife and I have been patients of Alan Schaeffer, MD for 11 yrs. Our first experience was when my wife went to him for a severe Eye infection. It appeared that she might lose the eye;but due to his attentive expert treatment extending for about a year,He was able save the eye and following a cornea transplant she has excellent Vision. Lin and I are both diabetics and highly recommend Him because of His knowledge , special skills and care of his patient. Rev & Mrs Frank G. Burton, Hernando.
