I travel Approx 3 hours one way to see this doctor
He is probably great for anybody.. but he is perfect for independent minded people who like to be in the drivers seat with their health. He provides me with any information I need, shares his thoughts asks challenging questions and lets me decide. I have refused traditional chemotherapy and radiation (treatments that have been pushed on me and in fact required by most doctors in order to receive care) for years.. This November I will be 23 years out from a stage 4 cancer and he has helped inform me about more benign alternatives. He is up on all the latest research, takes all the time I require and while being no nonsense and very academic, has just enough of a human touch. I give him all the stars I can and more for helping and allowing me to find health my way. His assistant Cheririse is top notch at what she does and in general the staff treat me like they could be the ones sitting in the patient chair.

Love his Bedside Manner
Dr. Bessudo was my second oncologist after I had already started chemo under a different Dr. and was not monitored closely and became neutropenic. I met Bessudo in the hospital. His thorough questions/icase history and compassionate bedside manner drew me to the easy conclusion that I needed to switch my care to him. I finished my remaining chemo protocol with his practice and have been seeing him for many years now for my annual follow ups. He’s easy to talk to you, treats you and your concerns with respect, and gives you all the time you need to be comfortable. I do not hesitate recommending him.

Dr Bessudo is one of the best doctors I have encountered. He is polite, personable, kind, empathetic, appropriately humorous and most importantly knowledgeable and thorough. He takes time to explain complex concepts in an understandable and clear manner. His office staff are all very friendly as well.

I'm amazed by his bed side manner. My being and sick and in constant pain has been a horrific maze of no treatment no definitive diagnoses no steps beyond sheer sadness and frustration tired of being sick and in pain. Then I met this gifted Doctor. I have white coat anxiety as it is but he is caring articulate and he's trying to get to the core of whats going on so yes I will continue to have restored faith I've found in him.

While he is friendly and affable, he lacks attention to detail. During several visits, it was obvious he had not read my records. I was suggesting follow up care that he had not considered. He overlooked a crucial fact in my surgical report that said the surgeon had leaked bile during surgery (colon cancer), so I was Stage II and am now Stage IV because he did not order chemo. Wait times in Encinitas are often over 30 minutes. It is extremely difficult to get his staff to forward records to other doctors. It got to the point I would order the records and carry them myself to the other doctors.

Dr. Bessudo is great. I would highly recommend him. Excellent bedside manner and very knowledgeable. He spent a lot of time with my wife and I discussing options and was very adept at looking at the statistical data in terms of care.
