Dr. Greenstein and his staff are the absolute BEST
First of all I have had crohns disease for 43 years .When I was referred to Dr. Greenstein he called me immediately to discuss my symptoms. I could not believe how quick he got me in for surgery ( literally a couple weeks). The care he and his staff gave me was second to none. I cant say enough good things about him. I’m doing very well now and feel better than I have in years and it’s only been about 3 weeks since the surgery was done.Again kudos to Dr Greenstein and his staff!!!!

Dr. Greenstein is an Excellent Surgeon
Dr. Greenstein performed a Colon Resection on me in June of 2022. I travel almost two hours to get to his office but he is the best and came highly recommended. He and his surgical team are very down to earth and take the time to listen and respond to your concerns. For those of us that travel from a far they realize we are away from our families and they go out of their way to make us feel very welcomed at the hospital at all times. My surgery went well and the chemo that followed thereafter was not as bad as I imagined. He makes sure that the cancer center makes you feel as comfortable as possible. He is the best and I am happy to be alive thanks to him.

Dr Greenstein has done two surgeries on my son, an ileostomy and then a reversal. Both were done laparoscopically with great success. There is no doubt Dr Greenstein is a talented surgeon but he also has an excellent bedside manner. He was always available to answer our questions, didn’t rush out of the hospital room and gave us flexibility since we live out of state. His office staff was responsive and very easy to deal with. We are so very grateful to Dr Greenstein and his staff!

At the end of 2017, I begun to experience severe diarrhea. It got so bad I had to go to the hospital, more than once too. Each time I left, I had a different diagnosis – Gluten Intolerance, Celiac Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I ended up in the hospital AGAIN but this time with an intestinal blockage and a ruptured appendix. The surgeon performed an ileostomy. I was finally diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. Now, I was living a miserable existence with this ileostomy bag. My bag would break often, even multiple times a day. I was afraid to go out for long periods of time. After finding a drug that kept my Crohn’s Disease in remission, I was excited to be “put back to normal.” I tried an Albany doctor, but he said the risk factors were too high. Then I found Dr. Alexander Greenstein. Not only was he honest, but he also did more test to ensure that I could handle surgery. He was able to reverse the ileostomy procedure. I am so grateful. He gave me my life back.

Dr. Greenstein and his whole team was amazing! He saw me immediately after I was referred and bumped up my surgery to the same day when my pain increased significantly. His office staff was so patient and thorough. Bari, his PA, calls back immediately when I have questions. Highly recommend!

Accompanied my adult daughter to pre-op and post-op visits. Dr. Greenstein was careful, thoughtful, thorough and empathic. Surgery was expertly done, and her recovery was quick and easy. Highest rating possible.

Dr. Greenstein is a hero!! His insight saved me from a surgery that would have left me without a third of my colon for what pathology would later show as no reason. His experience told him that it was probably nothing bad, and that we should do a less extensive surgery. Thank God I trusted him! Dr. Greenstein's bedside manner was also great--he made me feel calm in a time of much alarm. His PA Bari Giller is also wonderful. She was so responsive and helpful when it came to answering so many questions I had via email.

I have had 3 surgeries by Dr Greenstein. First was for diverticulitis. A difficult case because of the location and severity. He went above and beyond to ensure I did not need a permanent colostomy. He then did an ileostomy reversal on me a few months later. If not for his ability I would not have the same quality of life I do now. Finally I needed to have my gallbladder removed. I would trust no one else. It was a testament to his skill that in a little over 4 hours I went from the OR to walking in my front door. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!

Dr. Alexander Greenstein performed emergency gallbladder surgery for me. Due to a past medical history, this surgery was not an easy or normal one. Dr. Greenstein handled it with professional care and efficiency, while comforting my family and I. Surgery went great, recovery was watched over by his team diligently, and I am on the road to recovery. Many thanks to Dr. Greenstein and his wonderful team!

After being severely ill for over 2 months and enduring 5 different hospitalizations in PA, I ended up in NY to see a GI specialist, Dr. Kornbluth, as none of the countless doctors I saw were able to help me. I was there for a 2nd opinion, just a regular appointment. He sent me straight to the ER at Mt. Sinai to get surgery and told me that the surgeon was one of the best at what I needed done. Man was that an understatement. Dr. Greenstein called me while I was in the car on the way to the ER, not something you would expect from a surgeon, especially one who had off that weekend. Long story short, Dr. Greenstein saved my life. None of the other doctors recommended the surgery, that it is now so clear I needed. And it could not have gone better thanks to Dr. Greenstein. Going to NY to see Dr. Kornbluth and Dr. Greenstein was by far the BEST decision I have made. It scares me still to question what would have happened during that surgery if 1 of the surgeons in PA had performed it.

Dr. Greenstein and his team are truly the best there is. We first met when I was in the hospital during a terrible UC flare up. Before knowing I’d need to have surgery, he’d kindly come to visit me at least once a day to check in, see how I was doing, and develop a relationship with me so that when the decision for surgery came, I’d be comfortable knowing him and the process. I did the 3-part surgery series. After the first surgery, I woke up feeling like I’d been hit by a miracle. I finally was able to retain calories again and gain weight and strength back — no more pain, no running to the bathroom at all hours of the day and night. Dr. Greenstein and his team gave me back control of my life. The surgery process isn’t easy, but if you’re colon is sick like mine was, you can feel comfort knowing that the worst is over once you’re in Dr. Greenstein’s hands. He works magic. And! He responds to emails in a snap — it’s so comforting to know that he is reliable and available.

Dr Greenstein performed a resection 3 weeks ago on my terminal ileum. He is absolutely incredible. He is a masterful surgeon and not only do I feel fantastic, I am healing beautifully. I was a laparoscopic procedure (thankfully). What I really want to mention is Dr Greenstein's bedside manner. I was frustrated about having to have surgery and I do not have positive reactions to pain meds used in post surgery units, but Dr Greenstein and his team are outstanding. I am an informed consumer about my Crohn's disease and never once did I feel like I couldn't speak as an equal to Dr Greenstein. I came to the hospital by myself and he took it upon himself to call my family after to tell them it had gone well. It's unfortunate that I hope to never have to see Dr Greenstein again, as all Crohn's patients would prefer to avoid surgery, but he is such an asset to my care team and I am privileged to have had him as my surgeon.

I was referred to Dr Greenstein by my GI in New Jersey and I could not be happier I made the trip into the city to meet him. He was kind and patient at the consultation and managed to answer all of my questions before I even had the chance to ask him. It was so nice to meet a confident Doctor who was not arrogant!! The day of my surgery he and his team were awesome at keeping me comfortable and calm. After the surgery, he was amazing about checking in and keeping all of my questions answered (and there were many!!) I have to say, he handled my procedure with care and kept me feeling great about it the whole time. I am now 3 weeks out and I could not be happier that I found him to do the procedure!! Even now his staff is awesome about returning calls and emails to answer all of my follow up questions. He did an amazing job with my surgery and I would recommend him to anyone who asked in a heartbeat!!

I can only say I've had I positive experience with Dr. Greenstein. Now 6 weeks post-op I feel much better. 6 weeks ago, when I entered the ED at Mt Sinai, Dr. Greenstein did not shy from taking-on what was a case with much uncertainty and potential for serious consequences. Dr. Greenstein's confidence was reassuring to me during these times, and not unfounded as the procedure went well, and frankly, I am here to write this review. During my time on the wards, I was visited by Dr. Greenstein or his team daily (who also I found to very helpful and pleasant). Despite a likely busy schedule, he was always open to answering my questions, clarify his decisions, and ease my uncertainty. Moreover, his office staff was very helpful in scheduling and diligent in responding to emails, as I needed school documentation completed. All-around, 100% recommend.

I would 100% recommend Dr. Greenstein to any family member or loved one that suffers from IBD. I was suffering for months with symptoms related to my Crohn’s Disease and when it came time for surgery, Dr. Greenstein was recommended to me and I could not have been happier with how my surgery went. His office staff i s highly attentive and all questions I had regarding pre and post op care were answered immediately by his Physician Assistant. While in the hospital, Dr. Greenstein’s team checked on me multiple times throughout the day. When it came to explaining what my procedure would entail, Dr. Greenstein took the time to answer all my questions regarding the procedure. 5 stars for all categories. I am very thankful I was recommended to him and his office.
