Feeling Helpless
I am a lady in her 60s and I was beginning to forget certain things like names and phone numbers ?etc. Being concerned that this might be dementia I was recommended to go to a neurologist, Dr ?Allen B Perel in Staten Island NY. He sent me for an MRI. The NP at the doctor’s office told me that ?the MRI showed something on my brain and that I should take another MRI, this time WITH contrast.?I did this MRI immediately. My primary doctor received the results, and I also received the results. ?The report stated that the results were “worrisome” and indicated cancer. I immediately called Dr. ?Perel’s office and was told by his staff that he didn’t receive the results yet and that he’d call me by ?the end of the day. I remarked that both I and my primary doctor already had the results therefore he ?should have them too. He didn’t call me back. I made several additional attempts to reach him, but ?no success. Now, it’s a week later and I STILL have not heard from the doctor. Imagin

Dr. A. Perel is a Fantastic Nuerologist and person. He is very kind and patient. He really is concerned about your health. I wouldn’t go to any one else, but now that I reside in Florida I have to try and find Nuerologists as good as Dr. A. Perel and Dr. L. Feldman. I would Highly recommend both of these Dr.’s to everyone. Great people, they make you feel very comfortable and always find out your problems and take good care of you. Thank you to both of these Dr.’s A. Lacertosa

terrible
Went to him for vertigo and neck issues. He was very nice but as far as helping me absolutely not. Wrote me a prescription said he would follow up on how it was working and never did. Gave me a balance test, I waited 2 weeks for the results, The tech or PA called with the results at 4 on a Friday and he wasn't helpful at all, told me to see a chiropractor and said I didn't need to follow up with Dr. Perel. I called the office to set up an appointment after being admitted to the hospital and no one ever called me back. The Hospital tried to call his office they never responded. What a terrible experience. You go to a doctor for help and they write you a prescription and are done with you.

Had an illness that was trying to identify. He sent less then a minute with me in room. Also told me that he had to squeeze me in. Then sent his wife in to deal with me, all the time with main pan hunched over and weak. The wife proceeded to tell me that it was a Disc problem and prescribed 3 different medication. I wound up in the hospital for over 3 months due to having Gullian Barre syndrome. Something they could of and should of been able to identify based on the symptoms I was having. Terrible

New Patient, Fabulous Experience
I am a new patient at this office, and I can tell you that I genuinely had a wonderful experience. It was not difficult to get in touch with the office and make an appointment, and even when I had a few questions, I left a voice mail and the women at the front desk returned the call in a very reasonable amount of time. The receptionists and the P.A's are all very nice, empathetic, patient and accomadating. Dr. Perel was also very professional. He explained everything to me in lamen terms and made sure I understood the diagnosis and had no fear nor worries. He even ran some tests, one of which involved a needle, which I am afraid of. But he was so good, I didn't even feel it. It is also very easy to make an appointment. I would 10/10 recommend this facility to friends and family members. You will have a wonderful experience from the moment you walk through those doors, until the moment you leave.

The worst doctor ever
If you could avoid this doctor , please do. He spends 2 minutes with you and then you talk to his nurse who feeds you lies. When he talks to you he doesn’t even have your file with him. I asked him how many lesions I had- he said maybe three maybe four. And he calls himself a doctor?! I waited 3 months for the spinal tap, calling the office to see why it was taking so long. His nurse assured me that they were working on it. After 3 months I found out that they didn’t even file the request for my procedure. He is the worst neurologist. His diagnosis put me into depression because he wasn’t human telling me what happened to me. He seems nasty with the patients. Avoid him. I would never go to him again! I went to Manhattan office and I felt like a princess for the visit I got.

Dr. Perel is awesome but calling this practice is almost like having a heart attack. They don't answer the phone. When you leave a message, they call you back (if they do) in a rush. I just told the lady who called back that I'm in pain and can't sleep at night. She told me I have to wait for two weeks until Dr. Perel talks to me on the phone and prescribes something. I'm suffering from sciatic pain after the c-section and I've already had this for months waiting to go away. I guess she's never had a pain like this. They are completely unsensitive and lack empathy. They shouldn't be doing this kind of job.

Dr. Perel is good doctor but, his front desk staff sucks. Not responsive to patients who are obviously there for neurological issues. Call backs a virtually non existent. And hold on phone extremely extensive. Needs to REVAMP complete front desk operations (staff). Patients seeking neurological help need not be waiting endlessly for a response from the front office! (If they even get a callback) Some say the front desk staff are good. I guess they are selective instead of treating everyone with respect and courtesy. Call from pharmacies for refills go unanswered. Rudeness is their motto at the front desk. I see Dr. Perel because he's good, but due to his staff may have to reconsider

Spent years dealing with this offices inability to answer the phone, return calls, or provide any useful medical assistance. Besides their disgraceful bed side manner and generally inept staff, collectively the practice has minimal capacity to provide sound medical advice besides encouraging patients to get a second opinion in Manhattan. Save yourself the aggravation and don't bother with this two bit suit of cons. (Required to leave 1 star.)

Thankfully no longer a patient – Aug 08, 2020
×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Perel?
Dr. Perel is one of the best. As a new patient, he took considerable time (much on his own time) to review over 40 pages of my medical history and gave me a very comprehensive medical examination. He took the time to patiently answer all my questions and was very clear in his evaluation. He sent me his report within 2 days, enabling me to review it with my surgeon. He also recommended me to a hospital in NYC for more extensive testing. He came across as a very caring, compassionate man as well. I'd recommend him in a second. Thank you, Dr. Perel.

Will not recommend this Doctor. he was condescending and rude. He refuses to give important test results over phone for someone who is home bound and for the purpose we cane to him, he will not disclose results unless you come to his office.

I had a frightening experience recently during one of our snow storms. I am 86 years old and I awakened unable to control my left arm. I could not shave nor lift my arm above my shoulder. My wife called Dr. Perel's office and he said to come right in! I couldn't believe it, a Doctor who would see me right away! When I arrived his staff was aware of how frightened I was and them made sure I saw him within 10 minutes. He was so kind, yet professional. I felt relieved immediately-I knew it would be

Dr Perel is a good doctor. Since 2002 he has treated me for Multiple Sclerosis. Dr Perel has educated me when new MS treatments are available. So far the treatment I’m currently taking is working well with just a few side effects. Last year I was having problems walking. My left leg hurt and I could walk just a little. Dr Perel examined me said it was my left hip to see an Orthopedic Surgeon. The Orthopedic Surgeon said I needed hip replacement surgery. Dr Perel prepared the necessary paperwork.

Dr. Perel and his kind and efficient staff are the BEST. Dr. Perel has been treating my MS for over twenty years. He has treated this unpredictable disease with skill, knowledge, and caring. My wife, and I agree, if it wasn't for Dr. Perel's expert care, I'd probably be in a wheelchair. Thanks to this wonderful doctor, I'm not. I would recommend Dr. Perel to all my family and friends.
