Dismissive
I'm both relieved and sad to see many other patients had the same experience as I did today. Went in with lingering throat inflammation from an infection I had two months ago. He looked at my throat very briefly, and told me that since I wasn't having discomfort, he couldn't - or wouldn't - recommend anything. When I explained how long the inflammation had been persisting and how abnormal it was for me, he dismissed me, acted like I was being dramatic and wasting his time, and said 'since no one can see back there, why does it matter?' as if the only reason a woman would go to the doctor is for vanity and not health concerns. Ultimately he didn't give me any next steps at all. I didn't want to believe that he was dismissing me because of my gender, but heard him enter a male patient's room after mine and his tone completely changed.

Worst Doctor foe ENT
Worst doctors I have seen in many years no bedside manners he only spent 3 to 4 minutes. Doesn’t know my medical history and asking me if I have blood pressure issues. Did not check my thoroughly and left in five minutes telling me to follow up with my medical provider for blood pressure issues. Was totally waste of time.

Find Someone Else
He spent five minutes with me and acted like I was wasting his time. He surely wasted mine. He was disinterested in my hearing loss, and completely dismissed my claim that the degree of loss seemed to fluctuate. He made no attempt to understand the various medications I had been on and continued to be treated with. As a result, I spent several thousand dollars on hearing aids which I now do not need because my hearing loss was reversed as soon as the medications stopped. There are so many competent and caring physicians at Northwestern and I will continue to seek care there, but not from Dr. Carlins.

Before You Book An Appointment
Found doctor aloof, nonchallant, and incomplete. Went to another ENT afterwards to find that I have a deviated septum which is causing dryness and bleeding in both nostrils. I would find another ENT.

I do not recommend this doctor. Whole appointment and exam was less than five minutes. His phone kept ringing and he just laughed it off. Didn’t want to listen to what my problems have been and simply dismissed me. Super arrogant. I usually have great doctors with Northwestern so I am surprised of his lack of patient empathy and bedside manner.

Very dispassionate. Hardly made any eye contact. Didn't display any interest in my condition or concerns. I wouldn't recommend this Dr. I'm surprised to encounter this sort of provider at Northwestern
