Dr. Allison Ring, MD

Doctor Ring is my OBGyN after my previous doctor retired. She is professional, informative and listens. She recently did a full hysterectomy on me and did a perfect job. She respected my wishes and wants and made sure I got the best care in recovery. Would recommend her to anyone needing an OBGyN or OR surgeon.

I had a negative experience with Dr. Allison Ring of Novant Health. Despite my attempts at collaboration, she displayed a lack of empathy and professionalism, refusing to correct inaccuracies in my medical chart. She eventually updated the chart six months after my incessant push for it which was exhausting. Her judgmental demeanor (looking me up and down from head to toe) and apparent biases made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable as a patient of color. While I appreciate her honesty and direct communication in her practice, her approach to patient care fell short, prioritizing personal biases over patient well-being. I felt unsafe and unsupported, and her passive-aggressive suggestion that we were not a good fit reinforced my concerns. For context, I am a trained birthing and fertility coach and a public health consultant with 12 years of experience. Seeing similar reviews on the internet encouraged me to seek out care elsewhere and I urge others to consider their options.

Dr. Ring took time to listen to my concerns, asked many pertinent questions and gave several treatment options (pros/cons) of each. She was very professional and friendly, as was her medical assistant, and I felt that she genuinely cared about my issues. Would highly recommend.

Lack of professionalism. Insensitive.

Absolutely no bedside manner. Provider has no empathy or sympathy and was dismissive of why I came in. I told her that I knew the root cause and she chose to not listen. I was in pain for 2 weeks and when I left the visit, no answers were given, no anything. I left in a worse state that what I was originally in. She did give me an estrogen cream, admittedly not knowing if it would help or not. It was a last ditch effort on her part and she made that very clear. I tried it and it made my violently ill. I ended up missing work the next day due to it. When I called and asked for a doctor's note, I ended up playing telephone tag and had to explain my situation to 3 different nurses. Each one told me the cream would not cause the any reaction. The 3rd nurse told me the Dr. Ring would "allow you a note, for work" however it was extremely unlikely the cream made me ill. I'm not surprised she would say that being the initial cause of me being there was also dismissed. The whole ordeal was insulting. I was belittled and my reason for being there was dismissed. Not only do I not recommend Dr. Ring (very difficult for me to even call her a doctor at this point, being that she did not act like one at all), but I also do not recommend a Novant facility.

There's no way to sum up the extremely poor quality of care I received when being treated by Dr. Ring at the age of 19 with my first child. She treated me as just another young woman on state insurance without any clue what my circumstances were. She didn't listen to any of my concerns which then turned to be having a still birth two days after my appointment with her. I didn't even want to go to her to deliver my dead child. She is awful. i can't sum up the terrible experience I had with her.
