Best psychiatric experiences ever
I gave up years ago on getting any serious help with a psychiatric condition which was misdiagnosed as depression when it turned out to be anxiety all along. I also suffer post cancer pain which is being helped elsewhere as it should be. Antidepressants were prescribed copiously in the past by many providers and after some of those meds almost killed me, I just gave up for years. In utter despair, I recently decided to give it one more try and this doctor is saving my life. He cares, he listens, he educates carefully about medications. He’s patient, articulate and compassionate, and he provides therapy as welI as medication. I am so glad I tried again. He was recommended by my palliative care doctor and it’s a great fit. He is properly treating my anxiety and insomnia, which are separate from and not always related to depression for some of us. I’m so grateful to have made the connection with a doctor who listens to me.

I saw Dr. Hucek over about an 8-9 year period. I credit him with being one of the biggest components of my care plan that saved my life. He isn’t a life coach and he isn’t touchy feely. He’s a psychiatrist who has an excellent understanding of chemistry and which medications are needed when. He also insists on the patient showing up fully and taking some responsibility for getting better. I cannot imagine that I would still be here had our paths not crossed.

I’ve seen over 20 psychologists/psychiatrists in my life; Dr. Hucek is by far the most knowledgeable, ethical, sincerely compassionate, consistent, and helpful mental health professional I’ve ever encountered. His approach is direct, realistic, and thorough - if you’re looking for a touchy-feely life coach he probably isn’t your style. If you’re looking for a brilliant solutions-driven psychiatrist who will provide you with logical discussions about the neurological “why” behind your diagnoses and execute effective long-term treatment plans that are comprehensive to the point of factoring in your physical health as well as mental health, you won’t find a better doctor than Dr. Hucek. I’ve been seeing him for almost 4 years now and am eternally grateful for the life-changing perspectives, coping mechanisms, and treatments he’s given me for PTSD, GAD, & dissociative episodes. His insight into chronic illness & pain is priceless. He's a wonderful doctor, I'd give him 6 stars if I could!

Not a very nice person, frankly. Lacking compassion; had difficulty handling sadness or tears. Took 4 meetings before prescribing meds, asking unnecessary and embarrassing questions about my past in the interim, and writing an embarrassing report that he sent to my therapist (who vowed never to refer to him again).
