Torn Meniscus - Pass on Dr. Ockuly and TCO
Before the appointment with Dr. Ockuly, we suspected a torn meniscus, so we had an MRI scan performed locally. We provided those scans and the accompanying report to Dr. Ockuly during the appointment. Although the MRI report indicated a tear, no action was taken. Instead, Dr. Ockuly ordered an x-ray, aspirated the affected knee, and sent a fluid sample for testing, suspecting gout. However, a few days later, his nurse informed us that the test results were normal. Surprisingly, no additional follow-up was made by Dr. Ockuly. We set up an appointment with Dr. Austin Crow of Chippewa Valley Orthopedics in Altoona. While Dr. Ockuly had told us that our son had a 'perfectly healthy' knee structurally, Dr. Crow used the provided information, his education, and experience to accurately diagnose the torn meniscus root and perform a successful surgery. We have since filed a negligence complaint with Wisconsin’s Medical Mediation Panel and are awaiting a response from Dr. Ockuly's attorney.

Outstanding Orthopedic Surgeon
Dr. Ockuly replaced my husband's hip, and the entire experience was great. He takes his time with patients to make sure they understand the surgery and follow up. Best of all, he listens to and answers questions. In my career at Medtronic I worked with many doctors. I would consider Dr. Ockuly one of the best for his skills and caring attitude. If you are considering surgery you would be very pleased with Dr. Ockuly.

Doctor Smooth with a caring team.
My first visit to a new Dr. went extremely well from introductions to care and results. The doctors team was spot on. This doctor is smooth in a caring & sharing style. His team follows his style. He is our doctor going forward for both me & my husband.

After seeing a doctor at my clinic, getting no diagnosis or relief after 2 weeks, I went to see Dr. Ockluy for shoulder pain. First visit, he did x-rays and saw nothing and said to do PT, a ndvif not better in 2 weeks, to come back. Second visit, he seemed puzzled but referred me back to sports med doc at clinic. Still no better and couldn't even do PT because of loss of range of motion and pain. Sports med doc did an in-office ultrasound, which revealed multiple rotator cuff tears and bicep tendonitis. Maybe a diagnosis at the start of this would have kept me from doing more damage by going to PT, where I was instructed to do pulling with my arm (which I was told not to do by sports med). I really thought a shoulder specialist would diagnose what was wrong, not just send me in circles. Isn't that what specialists do?
