Surgery was a blessing!
The pain radiating down my leg would not stop! I explored every avenue to relieve this pain. My acupuncturist suggested I at least have the surgery conversation. I am so glad I did because Dr Simpson assured me nothing was going to change until I removed the 1 cm cyst in my L4 L5 area that was found with the MRI. I was not the type to fear surgery, but it is the back! Dr. Simpsone gave me the confidence to move forward. The result was immediate, and I am back enjoying my active life 2.5 weeks later!

The best of the best of the best
Where to start? I cannot say enough about how much I appreciate Dr. Simpson and every person in his office. From start to finish, I was treated with kindness and respect, and the office (specifically Lori Tappen, the PA) went above and beyond to convince my insurance company to approve my much-needed surgery in a very short period of time. Every person who I came into contact with at Dr. Simpson's office was friendly and professional and seemed genuinely happy to be doing what they were doing. And Dr. Simpson was simply amazing. Don't let his GQ appearance fool you. This guy is soft-hearted and unpretentious. I would almost call him humble, but it is obvious that he is confident in his abilities as a surgeon...rightly so! He knows his stuff and is able to communicate it to his patients in a way that is clear and understandable. If you need a spine doctor, whether you need surgery or not, I cannot recommend Dr. Simpson enough. I wish I could write a novel on how grateful I am to him.

Neurologist back and spine
Dr Simpson is so kind and considerate when speaking to his patients. He went over my MRI results in terms that I could understand and his recommendations for surgery. He asked me several times if I had any more questions as well. My surgery went great and I would recommend Dr Simpson to anyone that needs his expertise in neurological surgery.

I recently had a cervical disc replacement surgery by Dr. Simpson and I cannot thank him enough for how amazing he did. I had chronic pain and spasms in my neck which were progressively worsening due to a herniated disc. I never felt pressured for the surgery and he fully discussed the difference between fusion and disc replacement with me. I felt that I was able to make my own choices and have all my questions and concerns answered. He was also very patient and took what I said seriously. I chose Dr. Simpson after lots of research and reading reviews and I’m so glad I did. My pre-operative pain is now gone and the strength in my arm has already returned.

I had been living with lower back pain and nerves that ran down the back of both legs. This went on for about a year. In tried the cortisone and at first they worked. And then they didn't. So it was time to explore my other options. Which was only surgery. After meeting with Dr. Simpson and his staff, I felt very comfortable with what was recommended. Decompression and fusion surgery. Wasn't thrilled about metal in my body but needed the pain to stop. Dr. Simpson made 100% sure that I understood what was about to take place. My surgery was this past May 14th. I could not have been more surprised the day after. Zero pain! Not only did the surgery go well, but the best part was he did not have to do the fusion after all. I'm sure other doctors still would have gone forward with the fusion but Dr. Simpson felt it would benefit me to just do the decompression. I'm so glad he did. I start rehab next week and can't wait to get back out on the golf course pain free.

His patience and clarity were incredibly reassuring. On the day of the surgery, Dr. Simpson's professionalism and confidence further solidified my trust in him. The procedure went smoothly, and I felt well-informed and prepared thanks to his detailed pre-operative instructions. The recovery process was equally impressive. Dr. Simpson provided comprehensive post-operative care and guidance, ensuring that I was comfortable and on the right path to healing. Highly Recommended and an Outstanding Surgeon
Dr. Simpson took the time to speak to me and explained what was causing my years of back, hip and leg pain. He made me feel comfortable, answering all my questions and explaining after years of unsuccessful physical therapy and steroid shots, surgery was the only course to eliminate my lower back discomfort. The surgery and recovery went exactly as planned. Dr. Simpson and his very supportive staff where with me all the way answering any questions that I had. I would highly recommend speaking to Dr. Simpson if you are experiencing back pain.

I would give 5 million stars if I could!
My experience w/ Dr. Andrew Simpson & Brigham and Women's Hospital was phenomenal. I'd recommend Dr. Simpson in a heartbeat. I've had L4/L5 disc herniation issues since 2020. Lots of pain in the lower back & unbearable nerve/sciatica pain. Numbness, tingling, & mobility-loss in my foot and areas of my legs. Got cortisone shots that would help a bit, but always wore off quickly. I was terrified to have spinal surgery. Knowing what I know now (3 weeks out from surgery), I wish I had done it sooner. I spent a long time feeling scared & anxious about doing the most basic things. I couldn't live my life freely or do the things I love to do. Now, I feel like I will be able to (with PT & patience) get back to things I love to do, and also just everyday things like doing the laundry & carrying grocery bags! Thank you Dr. Simpson - I am so grateful to you. Additionally, my experience at Brigham and Women's Hospital was exceptional. Thank you so much to the nurses and staff!

Brought back joy in my life
I had been living with neck/shoulder/arm pain for the last 6-7 months due to an herniated cervical disc and tried some conservative measures like steroid injections which gave some relief however did not solve my pain issue. After recommendation for surgery Dr Simpson carefully explained the process and benefits, giving me the necessary confidence. His team made everything to deliver a positive experience. The outcome of the surgery is that my pain is completely gone and life is back to normal. Witout a doubt the best decision. Thanks again to Dr Simpson and team!

Amazing experience....my pain is gone!
Dr Simpson immediately diagnosed my herniated disc issue. After suffering with chronic sciatic leg pain (L5,S1) for 18 months and 4 unsuccessful injections by a Physiatrist, he performed a minimally invasive endoscopic decompression, which immediately relieved my excruciating nerve pain. My incision was less than an inch and my recovery was easy. I highly recommend him for anyone with major back issues.

Changed my life.
I had an old annular tear L5/SI injury from a chiropractor 10 years ago that caused lower back pain. The pain resolved until May 2022 when I had my first child. After giving birth, I experienced left leg sciatic pain that worsened as my baby grew. I tried various methods, but nothing helped. I learned I had a bulging disc impinging on a nerve. After 7 months of unbearable pain, I sought a skilled surgeon and found Dr. Simpson. His numerous 5-star reviews convinced me. I met him in September 2023, and he was kind and reassuring. His confidence in performing a microdiscectomy persuaded me to proceed. I scheduled the procedure for October, though the wait felt agonizing.Three weeks ago, I had the surgery and it transformed my life. I'm pain-free, walking without a limp, and confident about the future. I can fully embrace motherhood and look forward to picking up my toddler. I'm grateful to Dr. Simpson for giving me a new lease on life. I highly recommend him to anyone with back issues.

Cannot recommend enough
Dr. Simpson was recommended to me from an acquaintance who had a very complex surgery done by Dr. Simpson several years ago. I found his practice to be VERY well run and organized, with excellent staff and PA assistance. As for Dr. Simpson, you can tell that he takes his job very seriously and truly loves helping improve the quality of people's lives. He offered very helpful explanations for why surgery was a valid option for my condition. At no time did I feel pressured to get surgery, I very much felt that I had time to think about if it was what I wanted to do and consider it at my own pace. I have probably told about 50 people 'I hope you never need back surgery, but I have a great back doctor if you ever do!' Though results can vary, I was quoted 4-6 weeks before returning to work and was back to work (desk job) at 4.5 weeks! If you are hesitant about surgery, take the leap and see Dr. Simpson.

I can live and work again!
Dr Simpson has restored me to a normal functional life again and I am extremely grateful for him and his staff. After months with a L5-S1 herniation that caused sciatic leg pain that was so oppressive I could barely work or live a normal life. I cannot believe how much I have improved since the surgery approximately three weeks ago. Words cannot describe how amazing it is to not have to deal with excruciating leg pain every second of every day anymore, and how bad things had gotten after months with no material improvement from other medical options to try and improve things. Dr Simpson performed a micro/macro discectomy which has been life changing for my day to day happiness and health. Any surgery has risks but if you are considering surgery I would strongly recommend Dr Simpson and his whole team. He fully understood the nature of my injury, the pain it was causing me and worked expediently to get me in as soon as feasible. I cannot believe how small the scar is as well its a

Got my lifestyle back!
Nearly 70, I had an ALIF procedure performed to replace my L5-S1 disk by Dr. Simpson on 16-May-23. Prior to surgery, over a period of a few years, sciatic pain in my right-lower back and right leg had increased to the point where I could no longer walk more than 50-100 yards. Standing still and kneeling had become intolerable. In my 1st visit with Dr. Simpson, we reviewed x-rays of my spin, showing me that the L5-S1 disk had been completely compromised and he clearly explained my options. An avid golfer, kayaker, and hiker, activities I could no longer enjoy, I opted for the ALIF procedure as soon as possible so that I could get through it, the recovery process, and back to the lifestyle I enjoy as soon as possible.I could not be happier with the results. I’ve had zero to very little pain. Started golfing 11 weeks after surgery, played 18 four times at 15 weeks out. I owe a great debt of thanks to Dr. Simpson and all my caregivers at Brigham & Women’s. God bless them all!

Life Changing
I have suffered over a year with spinal stenosis that left me with unbearable sciatica pain in my right leg. I did PT and injections with no relief . I saw Dr Simpson he explained my MRI to me with such clarity. Explained the procedure and answered every question I had. I had the procedure 7/19 and the pain in my leg went away immediately. He explained what the 2 weeks after surgery would feel like and he was spot on. I was walking a few hours after surgery and feel great . Dr Simpson and his team are awesome. This was my first surgery and he put me at ease and my only regret is I didn’t do it earlier.

Life Changing!
Last fall I was dealing with severe neck/arm pain. After an xray and mri confirmed I had a herniated cervical disc and suffering from radiculopothy. Dr. Simpson came highly recommended from a trusted friend. I was so scared to get surgery and hoped a shot would work, however Dr. Simpson explained exactly why the shot would not work in my case. He listened to me and was so patient while I processed everything and shared all of my concerns and fears. I am now 8 months post surgery and can say it was life changing! I got my life back. I am no longer in any pain and have full mobility and range in my neck. I was concerned about post surgery recovery pain, however, it was nothing at all compared to the pain before surgery. Acetaminophen worked just fine for any discomfort. I am fully recovered, fused and healed. I truly am so grateful to Dr. Simpson for being someone I can trust. Don’t wait! Time to get your life back!
