Priorities in treating a 91-year-old man
Telehealth
My 91-year-old father-in-law had been seeing another neurologist and they scheduled followup with Dr Christnovich. He has vascular dementia and paranoia is a big problem. We were told he would need to see a neurologist before they would increase his medication. Dr Christnovich wanted him to have an ECG before he would change the medication because it could cause heart problems. He finally agreed to make a small change to the dose and we should get the ECG. We talked with his PCP who agreed that his comfort is most important and we skipped the ECG because the results wouldn't change the dose in any case.

Awesome Neurologist!
Dr Christnovich has been my neuro for 4 years. He has been able to get to the root of my continuous spasms to finally get a diagnosis that was 3 years of testing and trial and error of medication that didn't work until we finally found a subspecialist who has seen what I have. But, Dr C never gave up and kept digging and trying. Does not sound like the reviews most of these people left. I have been seeing him for 4 years and always the same care. Listens to what I have to say and always extremely kind and happy to see you. He work hard to find the root of your issue. Definitely recommend him to anyone needing a great neurologist. However, Neurology like any specialty can have a wait of 3-4 months on average. This is normal even before COVID hit.

Impressed!
I really thought his care was excellent! He did many tests and was able to catch a condition I have that no other doctor was able to find. Now that I’ve got the right diagnosis (finally!) and I’m on the right medication I feel so much better.

Horrible Experience
Please do not see this MD, unless you feel like being ignored & disregarded. I was referred to this MD, because 3 other neurologists noticed one-sided weakness. He was instead focused on my tremor, which I have had since childhood. My father, grandmother, & uncle have all been diagnosed with essential tremor. It's an autosomal dominant trait, so there's a pretty good chance that it was also passed down to me. I told this to the MD on our first appt, & that I am not really worried about the tremor. Can it be bothersome? Sure, but I have also adapted and learned to deal with it. He kept going back to the tremor, even when I tried to refocus the conversation. He insisted that my problems, including the tremor, were psychological in nature (and kept repeating it), and that I needed to seek treatment for that instead. His justification for this was that the tests came back negative, and the tremor gets worse with activity-that's exactly what essential tremors do. Please see anyone but him!

I was referred to Dr. Christnovich for his opinion on a nerve test I had done 4 months earlier (yes, it took that long for me to see him.) When I walked out of that appointment I felt so disregarded, uncomfortable during the whole visit and disappointed in his poor opinion of me, his patient. I felt judged from the first minute he walked into the room. Why didn't I check his approval rating on this site before seeing him? Please pay attention: Dr. Christnovich is not the caring doctor you want to have diagnosing, or giving his opinion of your health. I wish so much I would have seen his poor reviews and asked to see a different neurologist and saved myself, time, grief and frustration.

I'm very surprised at the negative reviews on here. Dr. Christnovich was randomly assigned to my mother after a general neurology referral. During our first visit, he took the time to truly understand her case and ordered a number of tests that hadn't previously been considered. Sure enough, his suspicion was correct and she was found to have a rare genetic mutation. It doesn't necessarily change her treatment plan, but Dr. Christnovich's diligence has allowed the other members of our family the ability to get tested and hopefully prevent similar issues. I would highly recommend for anyone with complex neurology needs.

Dr. Christnovich did not listen to any serious concerns that I wanted to discuss during the visit. He also rushed through the visit and interrupted me numerous times, leaving me feeling worse than when I came in. I felt very disregarded and uncomfortable the entire visit, which is very unfortunate.

He is a very knowledgeable doctor! He helped me work through the issues I'm having, ordered many tests and had great follow-up after the tests. I can tell he genuinely cares. I highly recommend seeing him for neurology.

No, wouldn’t, I had a Horrible experience, he rushed me, lacked empathy and tried hard to send me off to other neurologists. My primary care doctor sent me to him for medications to help me until I could see a specialist and he refused to prescribe me medications. Instead, he made me feel like a drug addict. After I explained why I couldn’t see certain doctors, he tried to send me back to these other doctors. He didn’t listen to me at all. It was very frustrating. He needs to learn how to treat people with dignity. I cried driving home. I am now praying for him, he needs lots of prayers.

Dr. Christnovich listened well, explained things clearly, and communicated very well (and quickly) via MyChart after my appointment. He ordered extensive tests and seemed genuinely interested in finding the cause for my concerns.
