Dr. Arturo Riviera, MD

Dr Riviera saw my 86 year old mother in the hospital. He dug deep into her medical records, and helped make her comfortable in her final days. We never felt rushed talking to him, he answered all our questions.

My husband was hospitalized at Mease Countryside Hospital and Dr Riviera was one of his doctors. He examined him and explained in layman's terms the results of the various procedures my husband had such as CT's, MRI, and echocardiogram. He answered all our questions, and I felt spent as much time as we needed him to. He had a good bedside manner, and felt confident in his recommendations for moving forward with a treatment plan for my husband who had a stroke.

He kept insisting that my mother should be left to die from a uti , and then refused to allow specialists to come in and diagnose her for an underlying condition, which was treatable, after she vomited blood in the ER. Instead he kept insisting she could not swallow because of "dementia", which she was never diagnosed with, and in spite of the fact that she passed all of her swallowing tests. He kept forcing his opinion that she should be left untreated, even in front of her which was very upsetting. She would have been home by now, pain free and enjoying a quality of life with people she loved. Instead he kept kept discharging her from the hospital with antibiotics while ignoring her pain and her symptoms of internal bleeding, and refused to make appropriate referrals while she was there. She eventually threw up blood until she stopped breathing. This is a very dangerous doctor because of his refusal to listen to to anyone or even facts that vary from his own personal opinion.

This man tried to convince me to let my man die. Even though we both did not agree.
