Great doctor with a dose of tough love
I think why so many people are leaving negative reviews is because doctor Zaki does not sugarcoat anything. She gets to the point. I have been seeing her for a decade. And to be honest the first 18 months were not fun or easy. But I think what people forget is mental health requires participation from the patient to be successful. Especially when we are at our most vulnerable during early diagnosis.I know I was not in a state of mind to make the best decisions for myself for my first six appointments when I was in literal crisis. Zaki did what was best for me. Not what I liked or wanted. As years have gone by the relationship has changed because I have really gotten better and back on track. I not only trust Zaki. But myself to make the right decisions which was just not possible at the very beginning

gives ADHD meds but office staff is ridiculous
Telehealth
You know what's funny? If a patient is late or has an emergency and cannot make their appointment... we get charged some outrageous fee. But I always wait over an hour to see the doctor and am expected to pay the same amount. The only reason I put up with this is because she gives me the controlled meds I need that other doctors, better doctors, don't prescribe anymore.

Avoid This Doctor
Dr. Zaki’s office called me 3 hours before my appointment and asked me if I would arrive as soon as possible, which I did. When I arrived she was with another patient. Dr. Zaki seemed bored during my appointment, and yawned repeatedly and appeared disinterested. After I answered “no” to having sleep issues, or loss of interest in daily activities and having no thoughts of suicide, she nonetheless prescribed a medication which I later discovered is solely used for major depression disorder. The medication also warns of side effects that she had told me were not subject to this particular medication. My appointment was a waste of time and money - and I never received a receipt for my copayment.

Staff has gotten better, wait time has decreased
Telehealth
Dr.Zaki herself is an amazing doctor. Staff has become a lot better in their mannerisms, and are not as rude. The wait time is still long but has decreased from before. From one hour wait time down to 30 mins is an improvement.

I have been a patient of four different psychiatrists in the past 10 years. Dr. Zaki has been my doctor for the last two years. She is by far the best. She is very knowledgeable of the newest and upcoming medications and provides great treatment plans. It has been very comforting that she truly cares. The other doctors did not show her level of care and knowledge of medications.

It was agony! And do not recommend her at all, especially sensitive minors. Wait time took more than an hour regardless even if you came early. She had a logical approach respectfully but no empathy towards me whatsoever. She only managed to listen to my mom’s comments & never asked mine. As a result, I ended up being written down for ADHD medication despite her statement saying I don’t. Because she never asked my thoughts and opinions towards the actual patient, I ended up with stress and trying to cope weight gain and insomnia.

That office staff, tho…
My family feels that Dr. Zaki is as great as any other doctor that I wait at least 2 hours to see for 5 minutes. Seriously, an 11:45 apt and at 1pm I’m still in the waiting room with folks who had an 11:00 apt, don’t try to plan anything after your apt, you won’t make it on time. The office staff can’t follow requests such as the txting the right person with their virtual apt link; hardly communicates; have FORGOTTEN my son and myself waiting on our virtual apts; can’t send prescriptions to the correct pharmacy (as in correct city). I’m grateful for the treatment we’ve received, but I just don’t see how it’s healthy for people with anxiety disorders (among other things) to deal with this kind of environment. Counter to treatment to say the least.

I've been seeing psychiatrists for 15+ years and Dr. Ateka Zaki's care is abhorrent. She has zero respect for a person's time or well-being. She answered a phone call and was texting during our appointment on two separate visits. You wait 30-60 minutes for every single in person visit, and during a virtual visit I waited 5 hours - which is comical because the visit lasts less than 5 minutes. And the front desk has the audacity to harass me about getting on the call ASAP. One visit I was the first appointment of the day, but when I arrived the front desk notified me that she was going to be over 30 minutes late to the office and neglected to notify me beforehand, so there I sat, again. She has never had interest in my well-being, and is the typical "pill pusher" with no discussion of cognitive therapy or consideration of side effects when changing/adjusting medications. I urge you to go elsewhere to address your mental health, as your visit in and of itself will cause you stress.

Dr. Zaki is the best! She has prescribed for me for 9 years only because I didn’t find her sooner. Will continue to see her as long as she is practicing. As a healthcare professional myself, I appreciate Dr. Zaki for her professional and respectful manner, her listening skills, unrushed demeanor and seeing me as a unique individual in the context of my life situation. Medication decisions are made together with my input and with total regard to my history . Dr. Zaki makes herself easily available between appointments. Dr Zaki has accommodated my need for late appointment times. Thank you Dr. Zaki for your help.

Would not recommend this doctor to my worst enemy. The wait is always over an hour. When we finally get in to see her, she speaks to my son for 5 minutes or less, writes a couple of prescriptions and sends us on our way. So why the hour wait for no treatment and only drugs? Finding a new doctor.

I can attest that my son is today thriving and is well because of Dr. Ateka Zaki. A year ago I took my son to see Dr. Ateka Zaki and till today she took care of him as a finest caring physician. She is never in a hurry, always listens to our concern and responsive to our needs. I will refer her to any of my loved ones without any hesitation.

My elementary age son has had behavior issues from his very first days in pre-school. At age 8, he was diagnosed with ODD and ADHD/ADD. Dr. Zaki was his treating psychiatrist at an outpatient program and we continued to see her for medication management afterward. His behavior and school performance have dramatically improved. I recommend Dr. Zaki for childhood ODD & ADHD/ADD. I would have rated Dr. Zaki with 5 stars but the office wait time is unusually long.

I met her when I was in a psychiatrist hospital. She found the perfect medications for me. She agreed to take me on as a patient when I got out which she rarely does. I've been stable for over 2 years now. She is kind and caring unlike any other psychiatrist I have seen.
