I walked into N Cal Foot & Ankle with minor foot pain and after a year of care from Dr Salk, and now almost a decade seeking care to recover from his treatment; I am barely able to walk. I used to love my shiny, pointed black shoes and so did Dr Salk. He complemented me at every appointment but those are in the past. I am lucky to have a few hours in the mornings that I am able to walk. After 10 injections in as many months in 2015, surgery was the promised cure. I made him come to the OR, stand over me, and promise surgery was the answer before I let them proceed. If I hadn't been so trusting; it was evident the foot inflamed from the 10 injections. Months after surgery, and it clearly wasn’t a cure for the problem they caused. I was sent an......I’m Sorry...... note and a box of Harry & David chocolates. What is the creed? Do No Harm? Before treatment, I was on my feet all day, every day, but they did fix that. My foot is on my mind 24 hrs/day. s f r e 2 0 0 0. a o l

Fixed me quick.
Excellent. I saw Dr. Salk last week for an ingrown toenail that had been bothering me for months. He took one look at it, snipped it back, and I've had no pain since.

Misdiagnosis led to delayed treatment
Dr. Salk made a quick diagnosis that turned out to be incorrect; he clipped my toe nail, told me to wear toe spacers, and sent me on my way. On my return visit, Dr. Salk didn't even examine me. I ended up seeking help from an orthopedic surgeon because the symptoms got worse; the surgeon requested a MRI and found a sizeable cyst on my toe. I need surgery to remove the cyst, and the surgery is now more difficult because it has grown due to the delay. I would not recommend Dr. Salk.

If possible I will give him no star. He made me insoles not usable. He redid and charged additional $1000 to my insurance and I still can't wear. It is not fit to my feet. He refused to correct it. It costs approximately $2500 for customized insoles. I bought it from sport basement way cheaper and comfortable. Don't recommend him to anyone unless you want to waste your time and money for nothing.

Dr. Salk was not thorough in terms of examining my problem. He recommended orthotics and an anti-inflammatory for bunion pain, but there was no improvement upon my return visit. He told me maybe surgery later on and that he does surgery. He never took an x-ray to come up with a proper diagnosis. I went to another DPM who said, what? you haven't had an x-ray? This person was thorough, did an x-ray, suspects a fracture, and has ordered an MRI. Thinks surgery is not needed. I will likely wear a boot and perhaps have steroid injections. Truly, Dr. Salk is not sufficiently thorough. Careful if you need something more than orthotics and Epsom salt soaks. Surgery? I would not trust.

Bob Salk is very personable but VERY slipshod in his practice of medicine: never took xrays before surgery, knows NOTHING about rehab, and left me with damaged nerves + tendons in my foot. Do NOT fall for his Nice Guy personna, he’s a very incompetent practitioner. After months of being unable to move my toe even a hair and having him say “trust me, just rest”, I asked for PT. With a good therapist + hard work, I can lift my toe 1/2 inch but it will never recover more, no thanks to Bob Salk.

What a great Dr. and human being! Three members of our family have seen Dr. Salk for conditions ranging from plantar faciitis to ingrown toenails. He is personable, knowledgable, and very skilled. He was equally adept at treating adults and a 9 yr old child. He explains all conditions, procedures, course of treatment, very well. I can't say enough good things about how satisfying it is to be cared for by this Dr.
