My son was a patient of Dr. Pechter's for many year. He is not arrogant nor does he have a big ego. He is just direct and to the point. I would be appreciative if a doctor told me that he didn't think he was a good fit for me. He wouldn't be wasting my time or money. When my son was seeing Dr. Pechter it was a very difficult time for me , as well. Dr. Pechter was always there to listen. Sometimes I didn't agree with his response but in hindsight he was probably right. Prior to seeing Dr. Pechter my son went to several different psychiatrists. They diagnosed my son after a 5 minute assessment and put him on meds that he shouldn't have been on. It was frustrating. Dr. Pechter was very careful with his diagnosis. He did a full assessment and my son also had psychological testing. My son went through a trial and error of meds until we found the medication that worked best for him. I will always be grateful for Dr. Pechter. He was the first psychiatrist I was able to really trust.

Misdiagnosed with no patient regard
He misdiagnosed me without undergoing any tests (I have seen 3 psychiatrists prior and had 5 years of therapy and have never had this diagnosis, nor do I present any symptoms of it, I am just a woman in the right age range) and then prescribed me a medication that cost $1k monthly even with insurance. When I asked him about it, he said 'they had a coupon for the first month.' He also had his dog in our appointment which was weird. I do not trust him.

Just made an introductory call to him and he immediately asked my age (55) and he creakily said I was at his "age limit." I asked why he has a limit if he does adults and he said he usually does kids and people who are younger and they don't have medical issues older people might. He said "I don't do geriatrics." I told him I'm not a geriatric, then he proceeded to ask if I had health problems. I said I have a couple minor ones, and then he said, "It's not a natural fit and good luck." What an a**hole. I wouldn't go to this guy even if I made his ageist cutoff. Yes, he is super arrogant!

I don't know what the other respondent is talking about. Dr. Pechter does not use a laptop in sessions. I found him to be a good listener, careful about informing patients regarding medications and side effects, and very thorough. I have had no problems and appreciate that he will communicate via email and text.

This doctor should not be practicing. His ego is larger than his desire to truly help others. He misdiagnosed my child and was rude. Every time my child had a session, Pechter would ask what the diagnosis was and what medications they were on! Most of each session was spent with Pechter typing in his laptop. He is a terrible listener. Awful.
