He saw my daughter with Autism. She has had lifelong neuropsychological testing and psychiatric treatment and chronic trauma. She is fortunate to have the PA adult autism waver. He refused to sign the annual paperwork for continued services because she was not “severe enough “. She can not live alone , hold a full time job or handle her own affairs on her own and suffers from severe anxiety l, panic attacks and depression. That is exactly the profile that the waiver is for. Rather than looking into the purpose of the waiver he simply said no because she can hold a conversation. She has had psychological and psychiatric care and ongoing evaluations since kindergarten and still has care and therapy. Fortunately another psychiatrist quickly assessed her and took over her care. Arrogant and cruel. Stay away. He is uncaring and obviously ill informed and it lazy. Simply dangerous.

My experience with Dr. Harlan has been excellent. I came to Dr. Harlan during a period of my life full of confusion. Dr. Harlan listened attentively to the issues I was experiencing and responded empathetically. I left my first appointment feeling reassured. Since meeting Dr. Harlan my life has gained the healthy structure it had previously lacked, large in part to the medical interventions he provided me. As a young adult I find Dr. Harlan very approachable and very easy to relate to.

I have had nothing but good experiences with Dr. Harlan who took time to listen and has helped me with addressing things I did not want to admit. I am happy to have him as my psychiatrist as he has helped me to achieve a balance in my life with my work, my family and my mental health.

I saw Dr. Harlan at Mercy Behavioral Health. I don't generally take the time to post reviews of this nature, but I was troubled by his behavior toward me. I am a law student who came in desperate for help. He diagnosed me (perfunctorily) with Bipolar II, with several judgmental, sardonic comments about my life. He asked me how I paid my bills while in school, and poked fun of my trauma. He was impatient when I texted my mom for advice, and seemed unsympathetic to my fears of the medications.

I was raised in Pittsburgh and am a military vet with experience treating adult patients across the lifespan.  I prefer a collaborative approach in which we look for both pharmacologic and behavior changes to improve patients' emotional wellbeing.
