Dr. Brett Etchebarne, MD

I went to McLaren’s emergency department for a mental health crisis. The team was absolutely top-notch. The nurses, doctors, and staff were the most compassionate providers of care I’d ever experienced. I really felt that I’d made the right choice to receive care, and that everything would eventually be okay. Then Brett came into the room. His “care” was so dismissive and downright cruel that I ended up leaving in tears against medical advice. I will never seek emergency care in a mental health crisis again, because I will never take the risk of having a man like him in charge of my care. This man belongs in the lab, away from people in medical distress or mental health crisis. He has no place in an emergency medicine setting. If I could leave zero stars, I would.

Came in for a sickle cell pain crisis… this doctor was testing my blood for herpetitis and ordering the nurse to give me a psychology shot.

I saw him in the ER a few years ago, and he did not give my health complaint serious consideration at all. I had to convince him to even begin to do the necessary exam. It was odd. After he did do the exam, he was much better, and gave good treatment,but it was a puzzling and troubling experience to have to convince him to do the exam in the first place.
