Dr. Brian Carr, DDS

I have several health issues, one leading to a cone shaped growth out of the bone at the back of my mouth. I'm also a recent cancer survivor. I was referred to Dr Carr by my dentist with a request for a biopsy of the tissue. Dr Carr mentioned osteonecrosis but did not ever explain what that might have to do with me. (Something my Stanford team wanted to know). The procedure grinding down the growth and subsequent healing went well. My check up was with an aide. They never submitted tissue for biopsy. They never explained to me what might be going on. I had the impression it was "don't worry your pretty little head, we will deal with this". If you don't mind knowing nothing, they will take care of you.

Developed an excruciating toothache over Thanksgiving weekend, the result of which was an unsalvageable tooth, requiring an extraction and bone graft in preparation for an implant. Dr. Carr not only saw me Monday morning for an initial consult, but squeezed me in for the surgical procedure two days later. The entire procedure took approximately 30 minutes, and though sedated I was fully conscious the whole time, during which I experienced not even the slightest discomfort, much less any actual pain. Moreover, I didn’t even find it necessary to take either of the suggested high-dosage OTC medications in the days that followed. Frankly, I’ve had my share of run-ins with doctors over the years, many of whom feel entitled to be treated with deference and adulation merely as a result of having graduated medical school. Then there are the rare practitioners like Dr. Carr, whose reputation is fully earned by years of treating patients with compassion, skill, respect and sheer competence.
