Worst patient experience
He was very dismissive of my mental health issues. I went in to see him because my medication was causing some suicidal side effects and I got concerned. When visiting with him, he told me that everything that I had been diagnosed with (by other Drs) was wrong and that I "wasn't suicidal, I had simply romanticized the idea of killing myself." That is not a sound way to deal with a patient. He took me off of all my medications and would not listen to me when I would ask about specific ones that I had previously been on or wanted to try because "he knew best". When we finally started the medications and treatments that I had been asking about for months is when I finally started to get better. Seeing other doctors and taking a psychiatric exam, proved that everything I had been diagnosed with previous to doctor Merrill was in fact accurate. Further, all of my appointments with him were rushed and I was in and out in five minutes. Every time I left I felt like I had gained no help at all.

Should not see clients
I saw Dr. Merrill at USU back in 2018 for a refill on a prescription. He was entirely unprofessional and I ended up having to find a psychiatrist outside of USU. I’m glad he’s no longer there.

I'm a student at USU and have visited him multiple times- he reviewed my patient history and has helped me continue the treatments I need to manage my depression and ADHD. Attentive and professional, overall positive experiences

I haven't had any bad experiences with Dr. Merrill
I have enjoyed visiting Dr. Merrill. I feel like he knows what he is talking about. I just feel like another patient to him with no real recollection of previous meetings. This is fine because I understand he has a large number of patients.

Very Helpful
Dr. Merrill was very helpful in diagnosing my mental health issues and providing medication to help support me through those issues. I feel that he gave me space to explain what I was going through and seemed attentive to my problems. I would especially recommend other USU students visit Dr. Merrill if they feel they need help with their mental health, as his services are available through Aggie Health and appointments are free.

Extremely Helpful
I came to Dr. Merrill with both anxiety and depression concerns, and he gave me different options to help with both, and explained the side effects so I could make an informed decision. I appreciated his thoroughness greatly.

Dr. Merrill helped me with my son and is such a good provider! He was very understanding, kind, and answer all questions! We had to try a couple different kinds of medications before we found one that worked for my son. He was very knowledgeable and great with kids. I was very happy and would definitely recommend Dr. Merrill to others.

Caring, intelligent
We were at our wits' end trying to get a formal diagnosis for our daughter with special needs. We had been searching for answers for over a year. Dr. Merrill thoroughly evaluated our daughter, asked tons of relevant questions, rapidly gave her a diagnosis, and was very knowledgeable about her condition and the necessary next steps. He is a trusted confidant and I feel like he treated my daughter as if she were his own.

It was amazing. He was so nice and talked to me personally about my condition. He gave me several options on medication and let me know what side effects might happen and what the medications could do for me. I have visited him multiple times and they all have been great!

Dismissive and Disrespectful
Client tried to schedule an appointment to re-fill medication for an already diagnosed and previously treated disorder. The doctor refused to re-fill without a personal re-testing/evaluation. Pretty much, he doesn't believe in past medical history and often dismisses patient's thoughts and signs of mental illness.

Terrible psychiatrist and practitioner. He was extremely dismissive of medical history and didn't even look at my file. Accused me of managing my mental illness incorrectly despite not listening or understanding any of what I was trying to convey. It's an absolute disgrace that student fees are allotted to this sad excuse of a doctor.

Disregarded patient medical history and started fresh as if the patient had no history of mental health problems or medications. Declined to assist in titration off of a controlled medication and the patient was left to figure it out without medical supervision.

I have been trying to get help for my poor attention and impulsivity and at first, he gave me Adderall. It has been such a huge help and all I said was that "it slows me down" (which he took as a bad thing) and immediately told me to go off of it. He ended our meeting after 10 minutes without hardly asking about anything else. I get that he's busy and has a patient every 30 minutes but if meeting with him is going to be this useless, then what's the point in moving on to the next anyways?

I did not enjoy seeing Dr. Merrill. I had 2 virtual appointments and he didn’t even look at the screen the whole time. He told me that I had been mistreated for the last year and that my medications probably were not doing any good. Second time I came back because the new medication he had put me on made me suicidal, and he basically called me a liar.

This guy has no idea what he's doing. My wife has depression and sees him for it. He's made her feel bad about being depressed. He's made her feel like her depression isn't ever going to go away. He has given bad recommendations. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Dr Merril, you need to do the world a favor and quit your practice.

He misdiagnosed my condition as opioid induced psychosis when it was really insomnia induced psychosis. He called me stupid and didn't even look at my medical file to treat me. He refused to listen to anything I said to him, and he made prejudgements about me before meeting with me.
