Poor communication; lack of awareness, compassion
Dr. Carolyn Sanchez, Kaiser Pediatrics in Ashburn, blindsided me, when she brought up my eight-year-old's weight and size at his annual exam. He is not considered “off the charts” for height/weight. Even if he is, it’s not appropriate to shame a child for their body at a wellness checkup. What’s more, she discussed limiting snacks to avoid extra calories and have him exercise more. Prior to my other, older son's checkup, I requested his weight not be addressed (for reference, my kids are healthy weight; both wear clothes for their age, but they are tall and have always been in a higher percentile for height and weight.) This time, Dr. Sanchez did not discuss my oldest's weight in front of him; in fact, she told me in a separate room she had no concerns. However, when I received the visit summary, her notes read: "overweight," "dietary/exercise surveillance and counseling." We had other concerning issues with her as well and our children are no longer under her care.

She didn't listen to me. She doesn't know what she is talking about and she is completely clueless when it comes to School IEP's.
