ER visit a Scripps hospital in Encinitas CA
Went into ER since was out of town for muscle spasms in my right forearm hoping for injection to loosen muscle. Instead he ordered ct head scan, neck scan, electric cardio gram, chest x-ray, infectious agent detection, and everything he possibly could order. I left with a prescription for a muscle relaxant that actually didn’t work. The bill ended up being $25,000 dollars. I told him I had just played tennis the evening before, and had been moving some furniture. I question whether all these procedures performed were valid. Checking now with medical government agencies to see what I could do. Something equal to better business bureau for medical field.

Dr. Valderrama saw me at Scripps Encinitas ER - he was great! Explained everything, told me my options and had a great bedside manner. One of my better experiences in an ER. Thank you.

Arrogant and dismissive
Questioned my presenting symptoms Didn’t do a thorough assessment and evaluation Never reviewed labs or testsLeft me in a hallway for 6 hours without checking inShitty ER and this DR was convinced he understood what was wrong before even checking me out. Going to another doctor.

Unreal experience
My otherwise super fit husband came in with severe pain in his ribs. The two of us were dumbfounded (like mouth agape) at this man's unwillingness to assess my husband or show basic care. He then proceeded to very painful press/jab the area where my husband was hurting. He basically said, he would not be able to diagnose my husband, it was "just ER.". I said, well then can you admit him? We had NO idea why he was in so much pain. He said, he would have to call the admitting doctor. I said, can you do that? He said he could but that my husband was getting dressed to leave, which he was, as we realized we were not going to get any help from this doctor. My husband was later diagnosed with osteomylitis an infection in his spine cause by a bacteria. I have had great care at Scripps ER and sketchy care. It is hit and miss and this was beyond a miss. Truly was bizarre.

Above and beyond.
Dr. Valderrama treated me in the ER for serious injuries from tripping on curb and falling into a parking lot. My arm was the worst; it was broken and the elbow was dislocated and deformed. Knees, wrist and ankle were hurt as well. Dr. Valderrama was wonderful to me. Treated me for the panic attack I was having on arrival and was extremely kind throughout the 9 hours I was there being x-rayed, poked, prodded, stuck with needles and successful attempts relocating my elbow…which kept coming back out on its own. He was consulting with an ortho specialist by phone for me and explained everything he was doing and why he was doing it and was very empathetic. I left with clear instructions to see the ortho specialist right away, prescriptions and he called me the next day to check on me. He went above and beyond and I am so grateful.

Amazing, 4 year old came in for stitches without sedation and he managed to make him SMILE while stitching. And NO TEARS. He went over and beyond.

Very judgmental with a mental health issue, which should have be listed as third diagnosis. Highly recommend sensitive training.
