6 Plus Years Cancer Free
I’ll never forget Dr. Potera. I had a tumor in my stomach lining at the base of my esophagus, in 2017! It was malignant. I was referred to Dr. Portera by my primary. Dr. Portera explained everything. It hadn’t spread to my nodes. He and Dr. Funary removed it, going through my back and stomach. Difficult surgery. He was so kind, compassionate, and yet professional and kept a check on me for over a year. I’ll forever be grateful.

Excellent physician
My son had a tumor that needed removed in August of 2023 & Dr. Portera ensured he had all adequate information, tests & a plan for removal. He spent time with us, consulted with others, listened, explained & answered questions. We were not rushed and he did a wonderful job on the removal. Thank you Dr. Portera for your careful attention to my son, our concerns & your attention to detail! We feel incredibly fortunate to have you as his surgeon.

Dr. Portera is an excellent surgeon as well as a kind and compassionate person. He did my mastectomy after a reoccurrence of breast cancer. He explains things well and so that I understood. You can tell he cares about his patients. We are blessed to have him here in Alaska. 2021

Doc: Thought I would say Happy New Year and that I have plans to drop by your office some day for my final checkup after 5 years of survival from surgery of stage 4 cancer. After reading some of the comments I find that most found you the same as I did: The very best! Keep up the good work . Thank your for the opportunity to continue my life cancer free. Be well yourself. William Gilbert Fort O. Ga.

Dr. Poteria could use some sensitivity in dealing with cancer patients. I have never had such an uncaring and upsetting doctor’s appointment in my life.

I sought out a second opinion on my DCIS and found Dr. Portera to be thorough in his review of my file and imaging. He pointed out the various anomalies in my breast tissue on his monitor during my first visit and discussed all my options in depth with me. His exceptional care for his patients was further confirmed by the hospital's surgical nurses who told me he was one of their true favorites - and told me of a delayed family vacation to Hawaii so he could care for a particularly ill patient.

Dr. Portera delivers world class medical care in a relaxed, confident and thorough manner. I had emergency colon surgery in Germany which resulted in a temporary ostomy. Dr. Portera evaluated my case and assured me he could re-connect my colon. Dr. Portera spent as much time as necessary in explaining the procedure and never appeared rushed or irritable. Dr. Portera followed up daily after the surgery. I would recommend Dr. Portera to anyone as being one of the best surgeons in Alaska.
