Doc did 6 hrs of surgery to repair my broken neck. I am eternally grateful, home in 2 days, no brace, no PT and absolutely nothing negative throughout the recuperation and the years that followed. Jim from Seabrook

Good surgeon, bad follow up.
Waited five days on hospital stretcher with no food or water until surgery for the day was done than had one meal. After surgery in rehab, surgeon's office continued to call to schedule a follow up. Was told by rehab doctor my wife didn't have to go to follow up until she was ready. This surgeon overruled the rehab doctor and forced my wife to go for a follow up before she was ready. During this follow up he had her have x-rays without anyone to support or be there for her should she fall. Fall she did and bruised her knees. No x-rays were taken to see if further damage had been done. She was just sent back to rehab. As such we lost 5 days of rehab and I ended up having to pay rehab $2400 and change because insurance had run out. My wife is still not back to normal and is still scared to move very much. If surgeon has waited a few more days or had someone there in case something happened she would be a lot better.

Fantastic communication skills
Dr Charles Reitman was the fourth spinal surgeon I saw over about five years. The previous were all dismissive of my symptoms and offered nothing but epidural shots. When Reitman saw I had four lumber levels of collapsed disc, he offered me several options. We were very pleased with the out come.

Dr Riteman spent 40 minutes with me explaining results of my MRI and x-ray. At my advanced age (I am 83) I was terrified that my age would be a deterrent to surgery but with the constant and debilitating pain I am always in, I knew I did not want to spend however years I have left hurting. He was optimistic and felt any risk would be offset by a positive outcome. He explained fully the procedure he would follow and assured me the benefits would far outweigh the risks. I attended the preop conference where everything was gone over and all my questions and concerns addressed. I feel confident and optimistic now and cannot wait until my surgery is scheduled later this month.

Excellent! Caring, compassionate, answered all questions before and after both spinal surgeries. I thought him so good I have recommended him to several people. My daughter is in her residency in Boston and he talked to her on the phone before and after the surgeries explaining everything about the different procedures. We were both impressed.
