I understand that med changes require trial and error and periods of difficult adjustment.Early on, Dr T switched me to a new med from the one I had been on for years. I hadn't been having suicidal thoughts at that time, but as soon as I changed meds, I became suicidal and disoriented to the point that one night I was close to suicide but instead threw away the bottle of meds. I told Dr T about this as soon as I saw her next.At a later appt, when we were revisiting the prospect of changing meds, I told her I was scared because I almost killed myself last time. She said, 'You didn't tell me it was that serious.'I told my psych about my almost-suicide, she didn't listen to me, and when I referenced it she lectured me for her mistake.We went ahead with another med change, one she prescribed off label for bipolar mania. I've been on it about 6 weeks and felt like the beginning of mania, so I looked into it.It has been in 3 clinical trials for that purpose and failed all of them.

I am pleased to report an outstanding course of treatment with a psychiatrist, who, not only knows the historical literature, as well as current research in western psychiatric medicine. Better yet, Dr Thouvenot applies intuition when needed. I believe that present day western psychiatric practice requires measure of the body-mind-spirit considerations. Over the decades, I have been treated for a variety of depressions, attention deficit disorder, unipolar, post traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse. I went for years misdiagnosed.
