Ignored Infection Symptoms
I had a knee replacement done by Dr. Chen 18 months ago. The surgery went great and the recovery was really fast. About weeks later my knee started hurting again. I ran a fever of over 100.1° , and had some exhaustion. I called Dr. Chen and he asked for a photo, which I sent. Based on the photo he said it wasn't draining ( OK, but it had healed over), so he didn't think it was infected. After waiting five more days I had worsening symptoms, but he still thought it was OK. The next night I fell and my knee opened up and sent blood and pus everywhere. I passed out and called an ambulance. Turned out I had sepsis from the knee infection and spent 2 weeks in the hospital. During my hospital stay I saw him once for antibiotics. After that he went on vacation and didn't know I had sepis. Good surgeon, lousy doctor. I don't recommend him if you want any sort of follow-up.

I have had hip replacement surgeries for both hips performed by Dr. Chen In the last four years. After years of chronic pain and stiffness I am able to sleep, garden, walk, and participate in normal activities pain-free. Dr. Chen and his staff were professional and caring. I highly recommend his services.

Dr Chen replaced my hip 6 weeks ago. I was up and walking with a walker the night of the surgery. I was walking without any aids within 10 days. Dr Chen did scold me and insist that I needed to use a walker for another 10 days. I have been pain free and able to sleep on my surgical side for 3 weeks. I am able to recommend him as a surgeon without any reservation. His office is friendly and helpful. I also thought highly of the hospital staff..

I had two hip replacements within a 3 month period. The first was done with a doctor who specializes in the Posterior Approach and the second was done by Dr. Chen who specializes in the Anterior Approach. The difference in the recovery time was incredible. I had no restrictions and was walking unaided within 3 weeks after the Anterior Approach whereas with the Posterior Approach I was using the walker for 3 weeks and another 3 weeks with a cane. The restrictions I had with the Posterior Approach were very difficult to adhere to. With the Anterior Approach there were no restrictions, only caution, care and healing. I would definitely recommend the Anterior Approach for a simple hip replacement with no other issues to consider and I would definitely recommend Dr. Christopher Chen as a very professional, skilled surgeon.
