I had several visits with Dr. Curt Cockings for my child. Dr Cockings advertises himself as a pediatric ophthalmologist. While he may possess the necessary experience and training in pediatric eye diseases, I have some concerns that I believe potential patients should be aware of.Firstly, his ability to interact with children is not as strong as one might hope. I found him to be somewhat impatient, which can be challenging when working with young children. This is particularly important to consider, as many children requiring eye surgeries often have developmental disabilities. Unfortunately, his lack of tolerance in these situations can be a poor fit for this demographic.Furthermore, it's essential for both children and their parents to feel comfortable and supported during medical visits. I left feeling frustrated and somewhat belittled, which is not the experience one hopes for when seeking care for their child. Finally, Despite multiple visits concerning my child's eye issues,

Very thorough with exam. Will explain any question you have. He does not rush . You will wait in the beginning to see him: in the end you will understand why. I have no issue with the wait; well worth it.

Great doctor.
I never leave reviews but wanted to make a point to leave this doctor one. He was very kid friendly. Validated my concerns as a mom. Spoke to my son with a gentle tone and encouraged him throughout the tests. Hands Down would recommend this doc for anyone needing a pediatric ophthalmologist.

West Texas is so fortunate to have Dr Cockings!
For the purpose of explaining how many doctors I can compare Dr. Cockings to, our two daughters both ended up in glasses within 2 weeks of each other (then, ages 18 months and 4). My older daughter has some pretty rare eye damage that two different pediatric ophthalmologists incorrectly diagnosed as a chronic and ongoing problem we would have to stay on top of and manage. Neither one of those doctors are still in practice in West Texas FYI. We ended up seeing a specialist in Ft Worth and one in Boston, MA during a two year time period to confirm or not. I could tell when both girls first sat down with Dr. Cockings how he cared to look over their previous eye visit paperwork and medical information that he really wanted to do his job well. He asked questions, he saw the bigger picture and didn't rush any aspect of the appointment. Don't let the unfortunate shortage of pediatric ophthalmologists in West Texas make you underappreciate Dr. Cockings. He is THE BEST. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

He is very caring about our 5 year old grandchild. Very patient with the child. Clearly explained the options and gave us literature to use and read afterwards. Very clear about what grandparents are to do before next appointment. His receptionist is extremely friendly and helpful. The office location, parking, and waiting room are totally excellent. We appreciate Dr. Clockings.

My son is 12 and has been going to him since he was 1. Dr. Cockings did surgery on his eyes when he was 1 1/2 and corrected them. He’s amazing. I could send my boy to a regular optometrist now but I will take him to Dr. Cockings from now on. If you want to know, just ask him a question. If you don’t ask, he doesn’t know to answer. He knows what he is doing.

Love Dr. Cockings he’s about the only concern and honest doctor out in the medical field! If it wasn’t for him my son could of lost his eye from a wrong cream. Hate seeing negative comments about Dr. Cockings cause I myself seen with my own experience that he is awesome with his patients! He puts 101%!

His two young children were running in and out of the appointment room eating suckers and coughing while my 3 year was expected to concentrate and read images off the wall. It was insane. He was also an hour late because of car trouble.

Dr. Cockings is easily annoyed and condescending to his patients...Not a good quality for a PEDIATRIC doctor. The receptionist is rude and unfriendly. We continue to see Dr cockings because he's the only option in town, but my child and I both absolutely dread going the appointments. Go to anyone else of you can, if not, be prepared.
