Highly recommend Dr. Ballenger
Received multiple radiation treatments under Dr. Ballenger's care. I found her to be knowledgeable, caring and emphatic. She went over what kind of treatment I was going to receive and why she came to certain conclusions regarding the strength and duration of my radiation. She always asked if I had any further questions. Wait time and appointments are not in her control or her fault if some patients complain. I have nothing but positive things about her practice and efficacy.

Awesome doctor
I really loved Dr. Ballenger, I find these negative comments very surprising! She was always kind and respectful to me. Yes, she had cold hands which she always apologized for, and I run hot so they felt good to me. I want to know why she’s no longer there, and I feel, as her patient, I have a right to know!? Can anyone tell me why she’s gone?

Amazingly kind and friendly
I had 33 treatments of Radiation in Greenville, NC for breast cancer. The first time I met her I felt like I had met a new friend. She always answered my questions in a way I could understand. A very caring intelligent sweet soul.

Dismissive, brusque, aloof and rough
A stark difference to all other providers I’ve ever had in Boone, all of whom have been outstanding, both personally and professionally. Had weekly appointments, found her to be moody and inconsistent each different appointment. Very rough, insensitive handling of a surgical wound prior to and during radiation. Condescending about questions, most of which were common. And again, the aloof moodiness. I don’t usually write reviews but having cancer was bad enough. I went into radiation expecting I’d at least have a good doctor for my weekly appointments but I quickly learned to dread mondays..Ballenger does not fit in in Boone. Med here is friendly and helpful. She is neither. I write this so other women in Boone go elsewhere for treatment. It’s the little things. For ex: Find a doctor who bothers to warm her hands instead of saying sarcastically “oh but I have a warm heart”. Unbelievably bad. Again, I don’t leave reviews but this warranted an exception.

Very thorough
She spent a lot of time with myself and my husband and answered all our questions. I particularly liked the way she used analogies to make complex concepts understandable. I came away thinking she was very dedicated and would work hard for the best outcome with the fewest side effects.

Skilled and Empathetic
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, Dr. Ballenger answered all my questions in a way that I could understand. She took time with me and my husband to explain what we should expect during my radiation treatments. She was empathetic and so very caring. Dr. Ballenger spoke with me at each appointment and answered my questions. I never felt as if I was "just a number" to her. She honestly cared about my emotional health as well as my physical health. Now I am cancer free and I feel so very fortunate to have received Dr. Ballenger's expert care.

Dr. Ballenger is gruff, disrespectful, and dismissive at times. Dr. Ballenger uses humor to deflect from answering questions in an honest and professional manner. Dr. Ballenger has answered questions with conflicting information. She does not wear a face mask during office visits with compromised cancer patients, nor in the halls with other staff, while we are in the middle of a global pandemic. She wears a face shield instead which makes vulnerable patients feel highly uncomfortable and disregarded. Dr.Ballenger does not practice patient centered medicine, nor does she come across as compassionate or caring in her demeanor.

Posting for my wife, who she took excellent care of during her time for radiation. We really liked her, not just for her prompt attention and immediate care to make sure my wife was healed, but her personal touch into our lives made her seem as much a friend as our doctor.
