I spent a full week in the hospital with serious GI issues, never speaking Dr P except when she informed me my procedure would need to be put off for any day. I never had clearly understanding of what was happening, what Dr. P thought I might have, why I was getting so many tests & procedures and what my diagnosis was. I kept insisting to speak to Dr P to understand. I pleaded with the Internal Medicine doctor and the nurse to advocate for me to see Dr P so I could discuss my case with her. Her response to them was that I was fine and she did not need to see me. A nurse finally coded an emergency for me to compel Dr P to talk to me. Dr. P came into my room clearly annoyed and stood in front of me in silence. I asked about my diagnosis and she angrily stated “You have no diagnosis.” Given all the tests and procedures I had over the week, I said surely she had some ideas. She listed off what the issues could be and she did not realize that she never put me on antibiotics. It was a frustrating conversation that left me feeling vulnerable, disrespected and scared. I was then discharged with no written instructions for how to care for myself in terms of nutrition and other proactive measures. Dr. P did not care about me or my well-being.
