Excellent Doctor
I only leave reviews for excellent physicians. Dr. Churgin is heads and shoulders above all the other retinal specialists I have visited. Where the doctor in Goodyear told me there was nothing that could be done for my macular degeneration, Dr. Churgin has me seeing wonderfully out of my eye. I am very grateful for him and his abilities. He is kind, professional, and thorough. He is an excellent doctor.

Outstanding!
I've seen Dr Churgin several times and each time has been great, from beginning to end. His office staff is courteous and efficient. I've been seen on time for my appointment with minimal waiting. This communicates to me that my time is valuable which I appreciate. Technicians who complete pre-testing are courteous and explain each procedure. Dr. Churgin is friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. Highly recommend.

Highly skilled, compassionate, and overall fantast
Eye things make me very squeamish and just the thought of my retina tear causes me to almost pass out. He as patient, kind, and knew just what to do to calm my fears and anxieties, yet perform this very vital procedure. He was efficient and by the next day, I could tell my eye was healing. Not only was my experience top notch, I was able to get an appointment within 90 minutes of my diagnosis with my also wonderful ophthalmologist. I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Chugin!

Wonderful physician
I was referred to Dr Churgin after going to my regular optometrist. I was amazed that after the referral I was seen by Dr. Churgin just a few hours later. I’d lost my vision in my right eye and my optometrist was unable to see the inside of my eye with his equipment. Dr. Churgin was wonderful, kind, sensitive to my fears, gentile, and took all the time necessary to answer any and all of my questions. Because of the nature of my diagnosis, I needed to pick up each of the injections he gave me on the day of my appointment and take with me to the office. He was so careful during my time in the office ensuring that plenty of time was taken so I would feel no pain. He was very good about recommending a doctor that he knew of prior to a move I was planning out of state and following up with my new doctor so I could receive the same level of care I received from him. For all of these reasons I enthusiastically give a five star rating to Dr. Churgin!

Unprofessionalism
He seemed knowledgable and kind on my husband’s first visit for his left eye. On the fourth visit, Dr. Churgin wanted another 3 week visit although he said everything was fine. Fifth visit: the new computer system was not working and the new technician thought it was my husband’s first visit, wanting to dilate his left pupil which was permanently dilated, and also wanted to put drops in the right eye which had cataract surgery by the ophthalmologist the week before, and which that morning the opthalmologist said had trace corneal edema. Dr. Churgin on previous visit did not look in or had any interest in the right eye as he only worked on the left eye. The scribe came into the room insisting that both eyes have drops and pressure measure. Dr. Churgin, with the door open and without looking at the chart and at first not remembering my husband chastised him for not submitting to the scribe’s demands. When he did remember my husband he said that visit was unnecessary.

Fifteen months ago, an opaque curtain suddenly appeared in my left eye, moving slowly from right to left. It was a frightening occurrence and I saw my optometrist immediately. A retinal detachment was quickly diagnosed and I was referred to Dr. Churgin that very day. Dr. Churgin arranged for immediate surgery. He went out of his way to calm my anxiety and explained the steps of the surgery. Dr. Churgin was able to successfully reattach my retina and restore the sight in my eye. It is a delicate, intricate piece of surgical work and I am so thankful to have Dr. Daniel Churgin’s excellent skills available to me. The recovery period is a marathon, not a sprint, but Dr. Churgin has been regularly monitoring my progress through these many months. I’m very pleased with the outcome and could not ask for better care by Dr. Churgin and his friendly, efficient staff.

SUPERB DOCTOR!! Dr. Daniel Churgin and Phoenix Retina Associates have my strongest recommendation to anyone concerned about the health of their eyes. I saw Dr. Churgin on an urgent basis for a suspected retinal detachment after cataract surgery. He was deeply compassionate and professional, and performed thorough and expert examinations. Not only did he determine there was no immediate danger of detachment, he gave me clear and comprehensive information on the condition of both eyes. He was willing to answer any questions I had with immense patience and rapt attention. As an older female patient, I have experienced a great deal of sexist disrespect in medical offices. Dr. Churgin's profound respect of me, and the seriousness with which he took my symptoms, were invaluable to me in a moment of severe anxiety about the possibility of losing my sight. This doctor is truly a scientific expert of the highest caliber, with outstanding abilities to treat patients with gold-standard practices.

On September 17, 2020, I was referred to Dr. Churgin due to a tear in my left eye retina. He recommended laser treatment to stop further tearing and completed it in his office. With my vision now impaired due to the tear we discussed options. On February 19, 2021, I decided to move forward with the retina surgery, which would entail removing the film that has formed on my retina. The surgery took place at the Scottsdale Eye Surgery Center. The staff at the surgery center were amazing, getting me prepared and easing any worries. At the end of the surgery Dr. Churgin explained that everything went fine and I was on my way home by 8:00 am. February 25, 2021 was my post op exam with Dr. Churgen. What an amazing improvement. The cloud is gone as is most of the wavey distortion. My vision test at his office revealed a dramatic improvement already on the first day. I cannot say enough about this doctor and his skills. Personally, for me this is just short of a miracle!!

Had an eye injury on New Years Eve and Dr. Churgin was the only ophthalmologist who responded to the Dr at the emergency room. In addition to opening his office on a holiday to take care of my injury, he made me feel very comfortable with the procedure and was very reassuring. I would highly recommend Phoenix Retina Associates. They're on top of their game!

Dr. Churgin is a wonderful doctor. When I had seen him for the first time I was very nervous about going through with any kind of treatment for my medical condition. He explained everything thoroughly, answered the millions of questions I had, and I now see him a few times a year. I would highly recommend Dr. Churgin, as he is an amazing doctor, and the rest of the practice is super friendly and helpful as well.
