I had just been diagnosed as having a small tumor on the tail of my pancreas, that fortunately for me was found early, and naturally I was scared. I had already been seen by a different Specialist at a different hospital group but was very dissatisfied with what was said and planned by him. That’s when I decided that for decades I had been a Northwestern Medicine patient with my different doctors and I knew that I would find the best by sticking with them and after meeting with Dr Bentrem I knew that I had made the right decision because he actually did turn out to be the best as far as I am concerned. He takes the time to carefully go over everything with you step by step; from your diagnosis all the way through your pre-op, operation, post-op, hospitalization and finally everything once you are sent home. He takes the time to answer all questions and concerns, plus he has a great team of professionals working with him. You can’t go wrong if he’s your doctor.

Doctor Bentrem is absolutely amazing! He saved my life he did outstanding job. I was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer that spread to my liver. He removed right part of my liver. Great personality. Thank you so much Dr. Bentrem

Incredibly kind, talented surgeon. I met with Dr. Bentrem at a time when I was scared after receiving a diagnosis of a neuroendocrine tumor in my pancreas. His staff was so efficient and took the best care of me from my first phone call. They took care of getting all my medical records, reviewed them and called me within 24 hours to update me. I had a consultation with Dr. Bentrem and some of his staff and he showed me my scans walked me through my condition and options. He listened to me and answered my page of questions. ; ) We talked about my surgery and follow-up, what to expect. I left feeling so relieved to have found him. I had my surgery on a Thursday and was up walking on Friday. He and his team came to check on me once and sometimes twice a day.. checked my incisions, my pain level, my diet, my questions...I was able to go home on Monday! That level of checking in with me and following up continued after I was home and through my follow-up care. I'm so grateful!!

Excellent service and very attentive doctors

Dr. Bentrem removed one single metastatic liver lesion. I was 30 years old and had a 6 month baby girl at home. He truly is a gifted surgeon. He made me feel at ease knowing he had it all under control. I am 2.5 years NED and I owe a lot of this to him! I don't think many physicians would treat surgically,however, between him and my oncologist at NMH, they were willing to give this a shot. So grateful for him and his entire team. Also, quick shout out to his nurse Adrienne. She was top notch also. She met me in Pre-op. She made the process 100x less scary as well. She even came to visit on the floor at one point to check on me. They all are awesome!

An amazing clinician and a fantastic surgeon! His bedside manner is excellent, and his surgical skills are second to none! My Whipple, while difficult on me personally, was made better by having the top man in the US (my opinion after thorough research) doing the difficult work. My life was changed by his fantastic work. He literally saved my life. I can't recommend any doctor more highly!

Dr Bentrem was brought in to inform me of test results after I already had surgery. He told me based on his opinion that basically nothing was wrong with me even though my tests and surgery proved otherwise. Even though 2 other surgeons verified the problem by seeing it during surgery, Bentrem was not "convinced that's what it is" WILL NOT LISTEN TO REASON OR LOGIC AND WILL NOT EXPLAIN RESULTS THAT DO NOT AGREE WITH HIS OPINION. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!

Excellent outcomes with deep expertise. Takes the time to explain your condition and the surgery he is recommending. I had the Whipple surgery which is a very complicated and difficult surgery. Dr. Bentrem and his office staff were outstanding. They explained the procedure and recovery process in detail and were very accessible. Dr. Bentrem has an excellent bed side manner. You trust him and his team. One of the best.
