Nope!
Couldn't move forward with Dr. Cohen due to his incompetent staff. If his staff messes something up and then blows you off would you really trust them to do surgery or anything for that matter?. Nope! Do yourself a favor and find another Doctor.

Spent time with me, odd follow-up communications
I went to Dr. Cohen as an expert in SI joint pain. He spent time talking with me before conducting pain provocation exercises. I claimed that a highly-placed surgeon had performed the other “definitive” test of SI joint, which is to inject the joint under fluoroscopy to see how pain is affected. Cohen indicated he wouldn’t trust a test done by someone else. I’ve heard other surgeons say similar things. He insisted that lower lumbar nerve root compression was the likely culprit. After the pain provocation tests, he gave me a score. I said, “So it’s both.” He said, “It’s both,” and proceeded to describe how he proposed to attempt injections on the likely culprit first, and SI at a later time. However, when I received an email ostensibly from him, it said that the tests showed now SI role in producing my pain, which contradicted what he told me face to face. That lowered my trust. Months later, I accessed his full report, and that correctly reflected what he told me.

Would not recommend
I was referred to Dr Cohen by one of his surgical assistant's. Dr Cohen acted confused as to why I was there to see him. I have had 3 prior spine surgeons over a 20 yr period. One of which was at Hopkins by one of the lead surgeon's who is now retired. Presently 2 other surgeons have recommended surgery and being hesitant I wanted to see someone at Hopkins for another surgical opinion. Dr Cohen contridicted himself during my appointment. He told me that I did not need surgery and recommended injections but refused to give me a referral so I could get the injections? He told me that he wasn't taking my case. I found him to be very arrogant and unwilling to offer me any help. My appointment was a complete waste of time and I left very dissapointed with Dr Cohen. I will never recommend this Dr.

Difficult Surgery Went Well
I searched for a surgeon who was known to be skilled in correcting scoliosis. I was 72 years old and had back/hip pain for my whole adult life, but knowing it was complex I didn’t trust most surgeons. Dr. Cohen did a great job and I’m very happy with the outcome. I do have some limitations — but I no longer have pain! I met a young lady who had the surgery when she was 20 years old and she doesn’t have any limitations.

Confusing
Dr. Cohen was a very thorough practitioner. It was confusing for me as I was referred for SI fusion and as looking at an MRI of my SI joint which showed fluid in the joint, which I assumed was not a good thing. I was told I had no SI problem. I had two docs, a neurosurgeon and pain specialist who both saw an SI issue.

Excellent Orthopedic
Dr. Cohen is experienced & knowledgeable. He takes time to explain and answer your questions. I have recommended him to friends who have also been pleased with their surgical outcomes. But he is not one to rush to surgery if it is not necessary- that is always a last resort. I would recommend Dr. Cohen

New patient with confidence
I saw Dr Cohen recently and was pleased with how quickly I was able to get an appt., minimal wait time, very pleasant staff. Dr. Cohen listened to me and did a complete exam. I have had this problem for 2 years and he is the third doctor to look at it. Although we have not solved the problem I felt it was worth the drive to get his level of experience. I will follow through with his advice as we try to get closer to where the pain is originating.

Back Pain Visit
Went to ER with severe bank pain on a Thursday and was able to make an appointment with Dr. Cohen on the following Monday. Dr. Cohen had performed a successful spinal fusion and laminectomy on my lower back 4 years prior. Using the CT scan from the ER, complete spinal x-rays taken on the day of my appointment at John’s Hopkins, and a physical examination, Dr. Cohen diagnosed my acute pain as a muscle injury and prescribed physical therapy. The Rx told the therapist what to do along with the duration of treatment. The therapist concurred with the diagnosis and after 3 PT sessions and home exercises, the pain is greatly reduced and I am confident of complete recovery within a couple of weeks. I have complete confidence in Dr. Cohen and he has my highest recommendation.

I had a very complex spinal case in which I had 3 previous surgeries. Dr. Cohen is very patient oriented and is very specific with explaining procedure. With a 12 hr surgery to repair all the damage from my previous surgeries, Dr. Cohen has done am excellent job. He makes sure that he follows his patients post-op every 3 months to ensure proper healing and patient feedback.

Had it not been for Dr Cohen I probably would be in a wheelchair by now. I researched Doctors before I chose Dr Cohen. Having put two rods and 5 screws in my back I now can function almost as good as before. It's a long recovery but having Dr Cohen was the best decision I could have made. He shows and explains my x-rays and MRI to me that is extremely important. My body tells me when something is wrong but it doesn't tell me what. Dr Cohen tells and shows me and I can drive home feeling secure in my mind al will be well. Thank you and keep up the great work.

He was rude, arrogant and condescending . He seemed irritated and impatient with my presentation of symptoms and my questions. He was unapproachable and made me so uncomfortable that we left the appt. He had not reviewed recent scans sent to him and argued that he didn’t have them even tough we could clearly see them on his computer.
