He can be a bit abrasive, but he's great!
I've seen Dr. Donahoe for a few years now. He's seen me through physical therapy and 2 surgeries. I never felt pressured to have surgery. In fact, with my second surgery I wanted it right away, and he had me do a little physical therapy just to see if I got results that way. When I still wanted surgery (and insurance was satisfied I'd pursued other options), he scheduled me right away.Dr. Donahoe can be a bit abrasive at times (he IS a surgeon after all), but if you realize that his sarcasm is his humor and way of relating to his patients, he becomes easier to understand. He and his PAs and LPNs all seem to have personal experience with spine pain, either themselves or a family member. They can relate to their patients that way. When I've been in pain, I've always been treated credibly. He doesn't doubt me and finds a complete treatment so that I can return to normal life. I will follow him to any office.

Will not go back
I work a lot and used a sick day off for my appointment. After having multiple updated X-rays this appointment and then having to wait for the Doctor to come in at least another 40 minutes , he barely was even interested in looking at the X-rays and explaining them to me. I’m in pain daily and my spine and mobility is of course a priority. He seemed to careless unless I was agreeing to surgery but how would anyone ever agree to such a major spinal surgery when he doesn’t even take 5 minutes to explain anything at all! Five minutes with him after expensive visits, X-rays , and waste a day off work! Show some compassion for people and pain

Dr Donahoe
Dr. Donahoe 's instructions to me at the initial visit were confusing and I didn't return when I should have. A year later my primary care doctor sent me back to him. He seemed displeased that I was there, performed an MRI and announced I had a previous break in the spine. There was also a bulging disc and several places where the spine was narrowing. He stated that I didn't need surgery and asked me sarcastically what I wanted him to do about it. Being given no options, I did not know how to respond and said,'nothing, I guess,' before being dismissed. He seemed to enjoy making me feel foolish.

Not Good
Dr. Donahoe started the exam in an accusatory manner as if I was only there seeking opioids. So many doctors treat chronic pain sufferers like this and it MUST STOP. He has no clue what my history is. He was condescending and compared my condition to his wife’s which I found unprofessional and unpleasant. I’m in a grave amount of pain every single day, all day so I’m not concerned about his wife’s condition but I am concerned about my own. Then, he downplayed my diagnosis and said he saw nothing wrong. Right after that he said oh, you have some arthritis but there’s nothing wrong and told me there wasn’t anything he could do except order a hip MRI since I have hip pain. I made it clear that I was there to find out what my options were since I was diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis in 2021. I refused surgery and was having way more back and hip problems than in 2021. I can barely walk sometimes. I’ll have someone else do my MRI. I don’t recommend him. NO WAY!!

Dr Donahoe is an outstanding doctor. I thoroughly love him as my doctor. He takes his time with you and explains things goes over the x-rays. He is always pleasant and a pleasure to talk to. Rather Put Off
I was given an appointment with him simply due to the fact, according to the scheduling nurse, I needed to see a spine doctor. I was not made aware of his title as surgeon, and I never asked for a surgeon specifically. Everything went great until he walked into the room. He made it very clear he couldn't care less about my problem, as he was a SURGEON and shouldn't have to deal with some type of minor issue. Well, sir, that issue isn't minor to ME, as I am in pain almost constantly right now and $150 worth of a wasted appointment out of pocket that truthfully, I did not have to spend right now. He didn't even take 10 minutes with me, barely looked at my x-rays, before prescribing me something I blatantly asked him not to and then assigning me physical therapy he didn't even speak about while he was in the room. His nurses did 99.9% of the work with me, so THEY should be praised, not him. I sincerely hope he doesn't treat others this same way in the future.

Dr. Donahoe is compassionate and knowledgeable.
Dr. Donahoe listens! He is personable and wanted to hear my opinion and goals when I had a ruptured disc 2 years ago and recently other spinal issues affecting my life. He gives sound, thoughtful recommendations for possible treatments and does not rush to surgery. Under his care, I’ve avoided surgery, but I know from a dear friend whom he helped that he performed brilliant surgery, providing much needed pain relief.
