Dr. David Hamlar Jr, MD

Not what was hoped for. I was referred for followup to see Dr Hamlar for removal of post surgery packing from a Cerebral Spinal Fluid Leak repair surgery done out of state. Upon arrival, Dr Hamlar appeared to have not looked at my record, as he didn't know why I was there. Then, on starting, he loaded me up with more than the required amount of antiseptic, which caused a flair of my now known Mast Cell Disease, making my throat close up for several minutes. His response to my motioning and gasping out, that I was having trouble breathing was "if you can talk, you can breath" while my wife was looking more frantic by the second. As he was working on the removal, he kept making comments like "this must be the sphenoid, any deeper and it would be the brain", not inspiring any confidence in the person going through the procedure. This might have been a off day for him. If, not, this is a person I wouldn't want doing anything but the most routine procedure on a loved one.

I am a parish nurse, who accompanied a church member to the hospital for surgery. Doctor Hamlar not only explained everything thoroughly, he also connected with his patient in a honest and warm way. Was so impressed by the level of caring and skill of Doctor Hamlar. He is a great surgeon with excellent credentials but also a person who is aware of the emotional/psychological care needed for his patients.

Dr. Hamlar removed my tonsils a month ago. I've heard all the horror stories about a tonsillectomy, how painful and risky...etc. My surgery and recovery was great! I truly believe it's because I had the most talented, knowledgable and skilled ENT surgeon! He was wonderful!!

He did a horrible job on my daughters ear. He botched another surgery with her. She is lucky that she is O.K. He does not explain well. He did not finish what he was suppose to. My daughter suffered so much for no reason.
