Dismissed and disheartened
He seemed to disagree with my two previous psychiatrists re: my ADHD diagnosis, which is fine. That said, I didn’t get any clear answers from our visit. He seems to have a very narrow view of ADHD - because I’m “high achieving” and can sometimes force myself into action, he wouldn’t consider it at all. I asked if he thought it was manifestations of anxiety instead and he said he didn’t know. Ultimately I left feeling very dismissed - I went in looking for clear next steps and was instead subtly accused of doctor shopping for stimulants, told that I probably just have personality issues, and told to buy an ADHD workbook online for organizing tips - even though he thinks that I definitely don’t have it. I don’t think he’s a bad doctor, but being accused of drug chasing (no matter how subtly) put a bad taste in my mouth because I genuinely just need help and feel a little hopeless now.

Initial Visit
During my first visit with Dr. Helm, I felt like he was very attentive and was genuinely concerned about my mental health. I have a severe case of Adult ADHD which has negatively affected both my professional life as well as my personal life. Although I didn’t exactly receive the treatment that I know I need, I understand that health issues are sometimes solved through the process of elimination. I entrusted his care to the extent that I scheduled another appointment to visit him. As he gets to know me better, I’m confident that he will be able to more accurately assess and treat my ADHD. I’m 59 years old and Dr. Helm has only known me for 1 hour. I look forward to him getting to know me better so that he can help me get my life back on track.

First appointment
I was very nervous about this appointment. Dr. Helm really understood this and by the end I was much more comfortable. He really listened, read my notes for him and took the time to explain different conditions and how different medicines work for some and not for others. I am pleased that I will be working with him, but mostly that he truly cares about my health and he asked and answered many questions. I did not feel rushed at all.

Dr Helm treats his patients as though they are drug seeking. Then prescribed me something I had already tried and had a reaction to. My mom was seeing him at the same time and we both have totally different diagnosis yet he prescribed all the same meds to us both? Why switch up our meds in the first place when we were just needing refills? He didn’t listen had a demeanor that made me feel as though I was bothering him. WOULDNT recommend him to anybody. Then was charging my insurance for 40 min visits and never sat with him longer than 10-15 most.

Would not recommend. Odd man & a bit arrogant. I think it's strange for someone in his profession not to be able to maintain eye contact while he's talking. He seemed to have made his diagnosis within 15 minutes and stopped listening after that. Not helpful for me at all.

He was weird and not helpful at all. He got visibly and obviously angry when I told my primary care physician that he was was not helping. I do not recommend seeing him. Based on his negative behavior, I wish I could do more to insure that he couldn’t see anyone else.

I have been a patient of Dr Helm for several years and he’s always been professional and honest and during all follow up visits the evidence exists that he takes excellent notes because he always follows up to anything we discussed prior. During one visit the office was closing and tornadoes were spotted in the area so knowing I’m terrified of storms and of course offering safety for obvious reasons, he personally followed up to see if I made it home ok. I would recommend him to anyone.
