So full of himself! He thinks he walks on water. He was dismissive and clearly did not read my records. He did not help me. I will never go to him again or recommend him. I am used to a Dr. that takes time for me and listens. This guy only concerned with himself.

I worked for Dr. Herminghuysen for many years prior to entering nursing school. He is, without a doubt, one of the most brilliant doctors I've had the pleasure to work forwith. I would absolutely trust my own family to his care.

Horrible experience from start to finish. In office thyroid biopsies were performed. I don't know if he was showing his authority over the student that observed the procedure, but he was insensitive when he was showing her the "little stars" on the screen. "Those stars are cancer". He advised that I needed a total thyroidectomy, which I had a few weeks later. I did not have cancer! I now have no thyroid and deal the consequences daily! His staff in Roanoke were rude and dismissing.

As a previous type 1 diabetic patient of his; Dr.H is somewhat of a narcissist that happens to be a doctor. To be honest, his bedside manner is quite terrible despite him being a knowledgeable doctor. I had a total of 3 appointments with him before I decided to find another doctor because I got sick of his attitude towards patients including myself. The office staff isn't great. But, I imagine this man is hard to deal with daily. I can't recommend him to anyone that is remotely sensitive.

Dr. H spent 45 minutes in explanation on our first visit. He was willing to LISTEN to my concerns, make suggestions, compromise on the elements open to compromise. I was reassured and satisfied. Over two years my prognosis has IMPROVED. His office staff is approachable and informed.

I was treated by Herminghuysen for about 6 months. I saw him once and the rest of my care was abdicated to his PA and nurses. I became very sick on the prescribed medicine protocol from Herminghuysen. Due to the side effects which I was very consistent in reporting to the CCHC care team, I hat to take a medical leave of absence, went from a normal weight to emaciated, and contracted pancreatitis. Herminghuysen touts his education and experience and teaching credentials loudly. I lived.

I saw Dr. Herminghuysen as a new patient when he first came to New Bern. I chalked up his hurried "beside manner" to the fact that he was busy that day. He put me on Victoza, an injectable medicine, which I took for about 4 weeks until I became so weak I could not get out of bed. Why didn't Dr. H read my medical history before seeing me? Why didn't he ask me if I had ever had pancreatitis before prescribing Victoza? He did not do his homework! Would I recommend Dr. H? NEVER!!!

He is narcissistic, thinks every patient as a test subject. I had a crainiotomy in1988. My hypothalamus works off an on and thyroid ablated. My tests are never normal. I want to live life in piece. He made inappropriate remarks glorifying Nazi doctors. I am a Jew. He had no reason to question a bone density test ordered by another doctor AND no reason to bring my sex life up and suggest my vagina is like a raisin and there are remedies. He is certifiable or unsophisticated.

Dr. Herminghuysen is one of the rare doctors in the USA who very analytical and careful when it comes to diagnoses. He takes time to answer all questions and his lighting-fast thinking processes are a definite plus. He isn't embarrassed or above retracting a mistake, although he caught the two that he made (just via speech) right after he said them. I would recommend him to anyone who is having a problem with his or her thyroid- especially if they are having a tough time managing it.
