Arthritis not gout
I'm canceling my next appointment because of being miss diagnosed. After blood tests and numerous X-rays for wrist pain he told me I had gout. My latest visit with dr putman clearly shows I have arthritis.

He was my Rheumatologist for a year and for every visit he was very short with me and did not seem to be paying attention or care. I asked questions and felt like I was pulling strings to get any answers. I have chronic pain and have been gathering all my medical records for my current doctors. His are the only notes which have no comments by the provider. I downloaded a bunch of versions of the files as I thought it was a mistake but no, he didn't write any notes except my complaints and the labs ordered.

Reading these high reviews leaves me questioning because most of the time that I've gone to Dr. Lazar, he acts like he's just going through the motions. I have a debilitating form of arthritis and live with chronic pain and he never examines me correctly, he kind of just touches me lightly and makes me do a few poses and moves and then it's over. I feel like that way he can say legally that "I did examine the patient." I never really feel heard with him and his lack of eye contact is disheartening. I will be looking for a new rheumy who has more time and a better bedside manner with his patients.

When you are experiencing a decline in your health and your ability to function normally, or as you remember what your normal was, and finally a diagnosis is made on your behalf and a course of therapy is chosen that actually works...you almost can't believe it! Dr. Lazar diagnosed my condition and has successfully treated my condition for the past 18 months. As a result, my quality of life has improved dramatically. Also, Dr. Lazar's nursing staff goes above and beyond to coordinate treatment and communcations between the patient and doctor. I feel very fortunate to have found Dr. Lazar.

Love, love, love Dr. Lazar!!!! I even travel from Katy, Texas to Myrtle Beach to see him!!! He is extremely knowledgeable in his field and has a great bed-side manner!!! I feel like when he tells me something or recommends treatment, he puts my needs first and I know he's being truthful with me. Definitely recommend him if you are looking for a great rheumatologist - they are difficult to come by.

I was 23 when I finally saw a rheumatologist after suffering from rapidly worsening joint pain for 5 years. By this time I was already walking with a cane, frustrated with how previous doctors had treated me, and at wit's end. I didn't get the normal crazy look from Dr Lazar that I had gotten used to because of my age and condition, which was very comforting. I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis and began discussing treatment options at my first visit! Furthermore, upon getting denied coverage for his preferred treatment option by insurance, he kept fighting them until I was finally approved for the treatment. Two years later, I have a 1 year old daughter that I'm able to chase around the back yard and do all of the things that my disease had taken away from me. If that's not results, then I don't know what is. I now live 4 hours away and still make the drive a few times a year because it's worth it for the care that I have received.

I highly recommend Dr. Lazar. He has probably saved my life. I was exhibiting symptoms of RA. Dr. Lazar ran me through a lot of bloodwork to confirm his diagnosis. What he found was an elevated marker in my blood that he wasn’t expecting to see. So rather than just treating my swollen joints, he referred me to a hematologist for further examination. Instead of having RA, the hematologist found that I have stage 2 non-small cell lung cancer. Thanks to the thoroughness of Dr. Lazar and his willingness to dig for a solution -- rather than just treat my symptoms – my cancer was caught early and my prognosis is better. In my book, that is the definition of an outstanding physician!

As someone who has been very ill since I was young, I have seen many physicians, and as an emplyee of the healthcare field myself, that number is even higher. Very rarely do I see the bedside manner and knowledge that Dr. Lazar has. I was dismissed from many rheumatologists saying I didn't have a rheumatic condition, even when every other doctor told me I had one. Dr. Lazar actually paid attention and what I had was a subtle, atypical presentation of Psoriatic Arthritis, which is what everyone else missed for over 15 years. After I moved away, I tried to find another rheumatologist, and could not find one that came anywhere near the bar set by Dr. Lazar. So, instead, I now travel over 9 hours to see him a few times a year, because I value his opinion and refreshing genuine concern.

I love Dr. Lazar! After living with chronic back pain for over 10 years, I had almost given up on even trying to figure out what was wrong with me. Dr. Lazar gave me info on the condition he believes I have (there is no blood test or x-ray to confirm it as of yet) and all of the symptoms are exactly what I experience. Sometimes just being given an explanation of what is going on with you and having someone validate your struggle makes all the difference. Dr. Lazar is extremely easy to talk to and really cares about helping his patients. It is worth the wait for a first appointment (you'll experience this with any rheumatolgist's office in the area anyway, may as well wait for a good Dr.)
