When I first met Dr. Nelles I was in my late 60s, too doubled-over from sciatica even to walk my dog. I used a cane and was contemplating getting a walker. On my MRI, Dr. Nelles showed me the source of my affliction, a hopelessly trapped sciatic nerve that no amount of manipulation or physiotherapy could make right. He recommended a double fusion of the lumbar vertebrae. I did my homework, the doctor answered my questions, and we went ahead. The surgery went perfectly. Three years later, I can attest that my sciatica has been completely cured. A recent x-ray showed my titanium framework exactly where it was post-surgery, and "fully fused" -- nature's way of growing bone tissue around the supportive structure. Whereas before I was dreading my seventies, I now am enjoying them. My dog gets two walks a day! I will always be grateful to Dr. Nelles and his skilled team for restoring my health and making live enjoyable once more.

I went to Dr. Nelles to get a consult on a back injury that had left me physically limited, and in chronic pain. He confirmed I had tried all other avenues before recommending surgery( exercise, physical therapy, pain meds, epidural), and was open and honest about the risks and potential positive outcomes. He said I would likely not be back to 100% for almost a year, but six months later I am almost completely pain free, and back to doing things I love like running and kickboxing. I would gladly recommend Dr. Nelles to anyone needing spinal surgery.

Dr. Nelles is a thorough professional. From pre to post operation, he explained the condition, procedure and healing processes in an easy to understand way. Prior to my surgery, the pre operation staff were highly complimentary of Dr. Nelles skill and knowledge. As this was unsolicited, it was very reassuring hearing such comments just before entering surgery.

Dr Nelles patiently listened to my health concerns and clearly explained my condition, showed me my MRI and provided my treatment options. He respected my treatment option and promptly referred me to the appropriate treatment provider. His caring personality is very reassuring.

Polite and professional orthopedic specialist. Iistened carefully to my long history of lower back problems and surgeries. I explained to him why I was there that day. I injured my lower back and I was in severe pain and could hardly stand on my feet. I honestly thought I ruptured another disk again. He immediately Requested MRI without waisting time on other steps that in the past proved to be just a waist of time. I saw him two days after that and he showed me the MRI. It was a bulging disk and said he hoped that it will not require a surgery. What he did from the first appointment in terms of medications and procedures to manage the pain were all very effective and professional. It was one of my best experience dealing with orthopedic doctors. I am 76 years old and had my long experience with doctors.

He was the first doctor to sit and listen to me and look at my MRIs and Cat Scans and Xrays. Very nice great bedside manner. He had me do everything before to help to prevent me from having surgery. nothing worked so now we are doing surgery. Awesome Doctor thank God I found him

Back in May 2018, I visited Muir Orthopedics because of incapacitating pain in my lower back. Dr. Nelles saw me after had x-ray pictures taken prior to entering the examination area. After a quick mediocre exam, he had nothing to tell me. The only words he had to me is that the x-ray pictures do not show anything significant and I had to go and get MRI. Dr. Nelles suggested I do what I was already doing and that I should see him after the MRI. I am very disappointed by this doctor.
