DO NOT SEE THIS DOCTOR
I was on a long wait to come to UCLA to seek help for multiple issues. He claimed it was anxiety, stuck his fingers (which had no gloves on) hard in my ears and made me open and shut my mouth and claimed it was all due to my jaw. He stopped my mom from talking even though she was concerned and there to help me. He didn’t even try to order further scans or anything. I went home in tears and felt completely helpless. Went to see a dentist and sure enough IT WASN’T my jaw. Saw more neurologists who did further tests and scans to find out seizures and a stroke. I am now months later finally receiving the care as my symptoms have worsened greatly. Please take care of yourself, be an advocate for yourself, and do not see this Doctor. Please. He did more harm than good for me.

I have suffered from excruciating migraines for the past ten years ans almost given up. Dr Shaner listened carefully to my history, asked a lot of questions, no other physician had ever asked me before, and then came up with a diagnosis and a remedy that were nothing less than life changers. For the first time in several years I have had long head ache free streaks, and regained the confidence that I am in control of my health.

AWFUL experience - severe confirmation bias
so demeaning, he mischaracterized every answer that I told him to support his own diagnosis. he looked at my medical history and decided a medical problem I am having was psychological without doing other tests or LISTENING to my answers. Im so tired of these doctors, DO NOT SEE.

Great Visit
Dr Shaner is a very professional and detailed physician. As a physician myself, it was refreshing to be heard and validated. I enjoyed my experience. He asks the right questions and even managed to examine me more thoroughly via camera than my previous neurologist did in person. Grateful to have met him.

I saw Dr. Shaner for an initial appt for my migraines. He had odd bedside manner (i.e., muttering under his breath that he didn't like the words I was using to describe my condition, interrupting me, telling me that my previous doctors, including non-neurologists, were wrong about my care/treatment). He refused to refill my migraine medication because I didn't do exactly as he told me to... when I was still waiting to see my other doctors to discuss stopping other medication that Dr. Shaner didn't agree with. Unfortunately I was left with terrible migraines again due to no medication and had to find a new neurologist. I would save your time and money and go to a different doctor that cares about your condition and needs rather than just his own plans.

I was referred to this “doctor” because I was having seizures. He asked about my background and what each seizure was like and then came to the conclusion that it was anxiety and not seizures. He said that I wasn’t having typical clonic seizures so it wasn’t likely that I had a seizure disorder. He was also really weird and his behavior creeped me out. I switched neurologists and got referred to an epilepsy specialist and it turns out I do have epilepsy from a scar in my brain! Which he would have seen if he would have ordered an MRI. Seriously don’t trust this guy.

Had a video visit with him after which he ordered an MRI of my spine. I had it done and waited TWO WEEKS until by default the results released into my chart. This is after sending multiple messages to him and the office and never getting any response whatsoever. Very poor patient service.
