He is the best surgeon I have ever had.
He is thorough, competent, and one of the most knowledgeable doctors I have ever had the privilege of working with. Words don't describe how elated I am with the results of his surgery. I healed quickly with near no pain after a number of days. He performed a discectomy on C2-C7 Anterior and Posterior and the results were miraculous. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone considering neurosurgery.

Top Gun for Spine Care
I came from Chicago to visit Dr. Chou in NYC for my spinal stenosis which he did a 3-level laminectomy. I made the hike to see Dr. Chou because of his highly regarded credentials. Dr. Chou has trained in the best hospitals, published numerous articles, and has held highly regarded academic positions. Therefore, I felt more comfortable that I was in good hands with a skilled surgeon. Furthermore, he also has good bedside manners. He was courteous, knowledgeable, and communicated things effectively to me. I never felt rushed or had any feelings that that I was bothering him. An important aspect for me is always the surgical outcome. Since my surgery, I can walk at my baseline level and I get up from a chair to a standing position without any difficulty. Dr. Chou has improved the quality of my life. In sum, I trust Dr. Chou’s surgical decision making while he looks through the intra-operative microscope to perform his meticulous surgeries. I highly recommend him for any spinal disorders.

Air of competence and genuine caring
Dr. Chou was quite thorough in reviewing the X-ray and MRI he received from other sources. He showed me exactly where the damage was so that I could make my own health decisions. When I went back for the 6-week follow-up X-ray, his office called back within the half hour to explain my situation; he had checked the X-ray as soon as he received word of it. (No need to see him that time.)Cool competence as well as an excellent 'bedside manner'.

Poor communication, rude & dismissive staff
Consultations and follow-up appointments were rushed. Poor bedside manner and follow through. Concerns and questions were repeatedly dismissed and belittled by Chou and staff.

A Class Act.
I was fortunate to find Dr. Chou. I had the privilege of having him for my surgeon 2 weeks ago. I have degenerative disc disease of my entire lumbar spine. He is very patient and spent a long time explaining things to me during my first consultation with him on May 1. He is very skilled, knowledgeable and patient. He is extremely conscientious and concerned with each of his patients. He is the exact type of surgeon that you would want onboard during any spine procedure. It was an honor to have him as my surgeon..

Dr. Chou performed two operations in 2011. He removed osteophytes located on my cervical vertebrae in June 2011 and performed a lamenectomy covering L2 to L5 to clean out A severe spinal stenosis condition. It is now late 2020. I am 75, ride my road bike and hike most every day as well as stretch. His work completely turned my life around as I was barely able to walk a block due to stiffness and pain. I cannot recommend Dr. Chou more highly.
