Dr. Marutani and his staff are a God send. I am a colon Cancer survivor and super careful and sensitive about any changes to my digestive system. However, after eating a pre-packaged salad at Ala Moana, I started feeling sick and began violently throwing up for two days. Shortly after throwing up, I began bleeding out of my rectum. My wife was very concerned because of my history with colon cancer so she contacted (MY) GI doctor. With time passing quickly and with no response from MY GI doctor, my wife suggested we call (HER) GI doctor. When we called, Jenny immediately answered the phone and we explained to her our situation. Jenny transferred us to Jasmine who along with Jenny recognized the urgency and scheduled an appointment to see Dr. Marutani. Dr. Marutani is a no nonsense knowledgeable and kind doctor. He immediately inspected and assessed my bleeding condition and prescribed medication for treatment. Dr Marutani also called me the following day in the evening, after a day of surgeries to let me know that my blood work came back normal. I cannot give Doctor Marutani and his staff enough praise. I am now definitely more comfortable doing colonoscopies in the hands of Dr. Marutani and I consider him my doctor. Dan Sparks

I’ve been Dr. Marutani’s patient for over ten years. He is a GEM! Any patient will be very fortunate. He and his staff are ALWAYS extremely helpful, friendly, professional, respectful, courteous, attentive, understanding, and caring. I’ve read negative reviews and I do not understand why. I find it very sad, especially for a doctor who takes the time, uses all means to attempt to figure out what could be the source of the problem. I know of only a handful of physicians who work almost 24/7 for their patients. Dr. Marutani has always returned my calls, even at 8:30 P.M. He’s performed surgical procedures on me early Saturday mornings and at all diff. hours; he will not stop until his patients’ are better or no answers can be found, yet he and his staff will guarantee to follow up and make certain should anything appear later on. Dr. Marutani has the BEST staff! They are a well oiled machine; extremely organized, like doctor himself & very dedicated. I highly recommend.

I was grateful that Dr. Marutani and his staff were willing to re-schedule my colonoscopy to the last appointment for the day, which gave me time (three hours) in the afternoon to successfully purge my colon at his site.

Dr Marutani & his staff are very friendly. Due to the pandemic, we talk on the telephone several times. He answered all my medical questions for my abdominal pain and for my colonoscopy. Dr Marutani's staff helped me schedule blood test and laboratory work that were needed. We would schedule a set time for Dr Marutani to call and explain the results. He also returned my call when I had a question. That was my 3rd colonoscopy with Dr Marutani & now we know why I was getting abdominal pain. Thank you Dr Marutani !!

Dr Marutani is very friendly and thorough in his methods to find out what the cause of my pain was attributed to. He authorized several tests to include abdominal ultrasound, CT SCAN and barium X-RAY of the small intestine. He communicated with my referring physician and answered my questions. Mahaloz Doc Al

I've been seeing Dr. Marutani for years and he has always been courteous, informative, and professional in his conduct. I have found him to be a caring, conscientious, and forthright person. He makes it a point to explain the purpose of the procedures that must be done, and what follow-up treatment or other actions would be necessary to accomplish the best possible long-term results. As a patient who has seen many doctors and surgeons, I appreciate that he is truly dedicated to his work and strives to provide the best care for his patients.

I was hesitant to make this appointment because of the other reviews, but I was surprised. I guess the doctor has changed over time. He was prompt and greeted me kindly. He was thorough in his examination and gave a course of treatment that worked. His follow-up was also thorough and I received a call reminding me of the appointment, which I really appreciated.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS DOCTOR. He diagnosed he with Crohn's after just 10 minutes; I had no idea there was a blood test for Crohn's until after seeing another gastroenterologist (tested negative twice). He put me on immense amounts of steroids, then biologicals. When kidney stones started, he said that I was probably suffering from too much gas. I awoke halfway into one of his endoscopies.
