Told me the flu vaccine "stays in the arm"
I got the flu vaccine, but worried whether it was ok to continue breastfeeding my infant right away. So I called the pediatrician. Dr. Kelliher said "its ok, the vaccine just stays in your arm." That's not how vaccines work and in fact, I was passing along helpful antibodies to my baby. Besides not knowing how vaccines work or not wanting to take the time to explain it, Dr. Kelliher missed an opportunity to educate a sleep-deprived new parent and help create a parent-doctor-child relationship grounded in public and personal health.
