I had a fine experience with Dr. Rooney, but my experience with the office staff has pushed me to switch doctors. I came to them with questions about billing and insurance because my insurance company was giving me different answers than they were. Instead of helping me understand and validating my concerns about cost, they were incredibly harsh with me and acted as if I was being unreasonable just seeking answers to a few questions about billing and scheduling. I've never had a doctors office treat me like that. If you have concerns about money and may need extra support navigating the finances/insurance to make informed healthcare decisions, this is not the place to go.

As a fat person I’ve never been comfortable with Dr. Rooney. I tried to give her (and her one-size-fits-Medium medical gowns) the benefit of the doubt. If you are obese and looking for a doctor, avoid Dr. Rooney at all costs. I am severely obese. That isn’t something I’m happy or apathetic about. But it’s true and it’s never been something I could discuss with Dr. Rooney while draped in gurney covers (because the only other option was to be naked.) Today she refused to verify my eligibility for the COVID vaccine because my BMI (42) is “too high”. I thought that sounded wrong but believed her. Take a look at the eligibility requirements on the nyc dot gov website, specifically the phrase “40kg/m2 or higher”. My experience today is proof that Dr. Rooney is either incapable or unwilling to truly care for her fat patients’ health.

Dr. Rooney was my internist for many, many years while I was living in Manhattan, and I had absolutely no complaints about her or her staff. In fact, I would recommend her to anyone. The reason she is no longer my physician is because I'm now living in So FL. The only problem I would say I had, and the same goes for many doctors out there, is on occasion I had to wait more than what one would consider a reasonable amount of time but my respect for and trust in her overrode the waiting.
