Dr. Mayer is bright, and very knowledgable about gastroenterology. He spent at least 30 minutes with me to make sure I understand what is going on with me.

If you happen to have a psychologically driven GI manifestation, Dr. Mayer will be the person to help you. However, this is also the diagnosis you will receive regardless of the actual reason behind your issues. This can significantly delay or prevent the treatment you need. Do not expect Dr. Mayer to look at your file outside of the lenses of his own very specific research. Further, make sure you come prepared to withstand mild sexism when discussing psychologically driven GI manifestations.
